Lake Como is located in northern Italy's Lake District, in the Lombardy region of the country. Situated close to the Swiss border, the city of Milan is just 45km away.
The region's towns and villages such as Bellagio and Menaggio attract visitors from all across the world year-round thanks to the breath-taking views of sparkling Lake Como and its glacial mountain ranges. The mild Mediterranean weather is another big draw, with warm, sunny summers and pleasant winter conditions making it easy to get outside and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
As summer ends and autumn begins, Lake Como starts to cool down. October in Lake Como is a lot warmer than October in the United Kingdom though, so it makes a great escape from the winter weather. Average daily temperatures tend to stay around 13°C although higher temperatures of 16°C are not unusual. Temperatures do fall on a night in Lake Como, with low temperatures of around 10°C, so you may want to pack a jacket to wear on an evening.
October sees some rainfall in Lake Como, but not as much as the peak rainfall of the summer. There is an average of 121mm throughout the month with only 12 wet days the lowest amount of rainfall days of the year. This means there is a good chance of experiencing dry weather on your visit.
Sunshine hours are gradually decreasing as winter arrives in Lake Como, but there is still plenty in October. Holiday makers can enjoy 8 hours of bright sunshine every day.
With less rain and cooler temperatures than the summer months, October is an ideal time for exploring the outdoors and the stunning nature Lake Como has to offer. Outside of the peak tourist season, the area will also be much quieter and less crowded, which is always a bonus.

While the spectacular nature and scenery is what draws tourists to Lake Como, the food is what makes them return again and again. Ristorante Azalea is located on the water in Tremezzo, with a terrace that sits over the lake, and is the place to go if you want to tuck in to some authentic Italian fare. Some of the best nightlife in Lake Como can be found in the tourist town of Bellagio. Whether you're looking for a quiet drink before dinner or somewhere to spend the whole night, head to the Aperitivo Et Al Bar. Boat Trip
The biggest attraction in Lake Como is, of course, the lake itself. One of the best ways to appreciate its beauty is out on the water on a boat trip. A great activity for all the family, Lake Como has an array of boats, ferries and old fashioned steamers that depart from most of the towns around the shores of the lake.
Villa Balbianello
Take the boat across the lake to the beautiful town of Lenno. Here, you will find the terraced gardens at the picturesque Villa Balbianello, famous around the world for appearing in films such as Star Wars Episode 2 and Casino Royale. A stroll around the gardens is a relaxing way to spend an afternoon.
