Spring turns into summer by the end of May in Lagos, offering some great early sun for everyone. In recent years, temperatures of up to 35°C have been recorded in Lagos in May! Although the average high temperature is usually closer to 22°C, but there is plenty of sun to be had.

Even the sea starts to warm up during this month. Though the 17°C average sea temperatures experienced in the months before are not exactly cold, the boost to 19°C experienced in May makes the beach a very popular place to be.

At night, things are certainly starting to heat up in Lagos. Not only do all the clubs and pubs open for the start of the main summer season, but traditionally the temperature also improves at this time of year. Minimum temperatures are not likely to fall much below 14°C at any time during this month. And though a low of 7°C was recorded back in 2004, the likelihood is that May will offer plenty of warm days and beautifully mild nights.

Up to 12 hours of daily sunshine provide bright, light days across the region. But when the sun does go down, the splendour of the sunsets are something that should never be missed. And though the temperature increases as the month goes on, the fresh sea breeze and lack of precipitation means humidity levels of 72% are still very comfortable.

Lagos does experience some rain during the month of May. An average of 8 days are likely to receive some precipitation. However showers are short lived and won't spoil the fun. Especially when only 30mm of rain are expected throughout the whole 31 days in the month but still, it might be worth checking the forecast occasionally for up-to-date information.

With average temperatures throughout the whole of May stabilising at a very welcoming 18°C and endless day of beautiful sun, anyone that visits Lagos during the month of May certainly shouldn't be able to complain about the weather.

As the May sunshine kicks in and the beaches start to get busy, the Deluxe Surfhouse is a great place to stay for anyone that wants a sea based adventure. Situated outside the main region, the accommodation is spacious and very well equipped and there are plenty of other sports to try on site. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable about the temperament of the water. Best of all, some of the most popular surf spots in Lagos are right on your door step. After a hard day on the waves, the amenities and food in the hotel make it the perfect place to relax, all in anticipation of yet another perfect day on the water.

For visitors to Lagos that don't really want to go too far out of their way, the Belmar Spa & Beach Resort is the ideal spot. The hotel itself is almost on the beach. And both indoor and outdoor pools are available to guests who don't even want to walk that far. Even the spa facilities are only a few steps away.  There is plenty to occupy visitors of any age. And when you want to get out and see a bit of the town, a short 5 minute drive will take you straight to the centre. It's the perfect location for a very laid back holiday and a great base to enjoy Lagos.

For a delicious Indian food in the centre of Lagos, Delhi Darbar is the place to go. Nestled behind the petrol station, this Indian restaurant may not be the easiest place to find, but then we don't want everyone knowing about this little gem. Incredible flavours, really good portions and a Peshwari Naan like nothing you've ever tasted before. Even if you think Delhi Darbar is full, ask at the door. They always seem to be able find space for a few more visitors.

Feel the wind through your hair and have a day to remember by enjoying a Horse Riding tour in Lagos. For beginners, enjoy an onsite lesson to understand the basics. Or for those with more experience, there are a variety of different treks and excursions to try. There is even a night time tour so that all riders can appreciate the warm May air. Or if you choose not to ride, the site has a beautiful pool and other facilities so that you can relax while you wait. The riders can then jump in the pool and enjoy their own refreshment after a wonderful horse riding experience.

Whether you stay within Lagos itself or slightly outside, a trip into the old town is a must. Lagos is steep in history with a variety of interesting pieces of architecture. All with a number of cafés and bars to keep you refreshed as you go. Of particular note is the Bone Chapel on the side of St. Sebastian Church. Here you can see human remains incorporated within the walls and ceilings of the building, offering a true insight into some of the darker days of Lagos.
