After the relatively wetter weather in Lagos in January, the February climate brings far drier weather. Though the rainfall levels are by no means the waterless conditions of July and August, the expected level of rainfall decreases by almost 25% this month, making the entire region an even more welcoming sight.

It is still expected that some rain will fall on up to 14 days in February in Lagos. But the precipitation is considerably lighter than that seen in January at 77mm across the month. And this therefore enables the sun to come through far more often.

An average of 7 daily sunshine hours during this month provide much milder conditions on a far more consistent basis. This allows average highs throughout February to reach up to 16°C.

In 2011, Lagos experienced its warmest February in recorded history, offering temperatures of up to 22°C. And though these temperatures are not experienced every year, they provide some very welcome winter sun to all who visit.

Even the coldest temperatures are welcoming in February. Average lows, even at night, are 10°C, offering a huge increase on the lower temperatures seen the month before. And with the lowest ever recorded temperature only ever reaching -1°C, Lagos is still very mild at this time of year.

Average temperature in Lagos for the entire month of February remain at a very pleasant 13°C. However, while the sun is starting to get stronger, the benefit of this warmth is not felt in average sea temperatures for another few months. This means February water temperatures remain at a fresh 17°C. However on the warmer days of the month, it is not unusual to see visitors and residents going in for a quick dip.

Humidity levels also remain at a very pleasant 77% for this beach resort, providing the ultimate destination for any one considering visiting the Algarve during the winter months.

Lagos is steeped in history, but one of the darker times is signified by the Slave Market within the town. The market opened in 1444 but even today you can visit the exact location where it all began. Situated on Rua da Senhora da Graça, it is said that more than 10,000 slaves were sold from this point, which probably explains why there is still a certain cool ambience surrounding the area. Take a walk around the exterior and appreciate the significance of the site. Or head inside and enjoy one of the many art exhibitions that are often displayed within.
