Lacanau is situated on the coast to the north of Arcachon which is <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />north west of Bordeaux and is also a commune in the Gironde Department in Aquitaine in south western France.  Aquitaine is one of the 26 regions which run along the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees Mountain range on the border with Spain.  This area is a low-land region which makes the weather in winter generally mild.  Summer weather can be a lot warmer than northern areas of France but can be quite wet depending on the proximity to the Pyrenees Mountains and the Spanish border, rain tends to not last too long.  The town boasts a 14 km long beach which offers many water sporting activities, including surfing and the annual surfing competition is held here.  There are 4 supervised beaches during the peak season.  If you prefer, there is also the Lacanau Lake which has activities on offer such as windsurfing and sailing.  Other activities are available in the town such as walking on nature trails, cycling and horse riding. There is also a 18 hole golf course ideal in this season which is located within sand dunes, pine forests and manages to stay dry all year due to the sandy terrain.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The town is quite laid back and is a part of Europe where visitors come to enjoy the weather and the outdoor activities in their millions, annually.  The weather is a mild oceanic climate which has a cooling influence from the Atlantic Ocean during the summer months.  The rainfall in this area is essential for the large wine making industry here.  You can look at the weather averages which provide a weather forecast to give you a good idea of the weather for the time when you are planning your holiday.

The average monthly temperatures for each season are as follows:

Spring

In spring the highest average daytime temperature is 170C and the lowest average temperature is 60C.  The air and water starts to warm up in this season.  The Pyrenees change shades during spring on their high altitude stony slopes and are ideal to see so why not go for a walk or hike.

Summer

In summer the highest average daytime temperature is 250C and the lowest average temperature is 13 0C.  The weather is hot during this season but is cooled by the Atlantic Ocean breeze.  During the summer air temperatures range between 18 to 250C and water temperatures between 17 and 210C making it a very attractive destination for surfers, boating and canoeing.
