La Gomera is part of Spain's Canary Islands, sitting between Tenerife and La Palma. At just 370km², it is one of the smallest islands and retains a quiet, peaceful ambience, with mountains and walking trails rather than mass tourism. Travelers come here to relax and revel in the beautiful natural surroundings.

The island of La Gomera is basked in sub-tropical Mediterranean weather all year round thanks to its location in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of Africa. The month of October, while the middle of autumn in continental Europe, is still warm in La Gomera. This makes it a popular holiday destination for those wishing to escape the cooling climate of other countries

What's The Weather Like In La Gomera In October

Temperature

Visitors to La Gomera can enjoy an average temperature of around 23°C in October, though highs can still reach a pleasant 26°C on some days. Low temperatures are beginning to fall during this month, but hardly ever drop below 19°C, which is still warm enough to enjoy all of La Gomera's outdoor attractions in comfort. Walkers should take into account the colder temperatures experienced in the mountains though, and dress accordingly.

Sea Temperature

If you're planning to visit the beach, you can still swim in the sea around La Gomera in October. The Atlantic Ocean remains warm and swimmer-friendly at 24°C.

Sunshine Hours

Sunbathing is still an option too, as the island enjoys ten hours of sunshine each day and there's a 51% chance of a sunny day.

Rain

While the weather is still great in October, there is an increased chance of rainfall, which holiday makers should take into consideration. October sees an average of 145mm of precipitation with 14 wet days throughout the month. However, there's only a 13% chance of rain on average, so many days will be dry and bright.

October is often said to be one of the best times to visit La Gomera, with temperatures that are warm but not as hot as the sizzling temperatures of the peak summer season. Weather conditions in October are perfect for a walking holiday.

La Gomera Beaches For October

While many areas of Europe are too cold to hit the beach in October, La Gomera still has perfect beach weather. La Gomera locals tend to only visit the island's beaches during the summer, so they should be relatively quiet at this time of year too.

Playa de la Caleta

Visitors to La Gomera will be delighted by the peaceful bays and relaxed stretches of sand. One of the nicest beaches on the island is Playa de la Caleta on the north shore. The beach lies in a wind-protected bay backed by rugged cliffs and features picnic areas where visitors can enjoy lunch.

Bars And Restaurants

La Cabana

The lively town of San Sebastian is one of the best places for food and drink on the island of La Gomera. For genuine Canarian food, head to La Cabana which is located just outside of the town centre. The walk will build up your appetite for the delicious dishes on offer here, which include rabbit and squid. There's also a great selection of wine.

El Pajar la Gomera

If you're on a budget, El Pajar la Gomera is a great value option in the town centre, just a short walk from the Museo Arqueológico de La Gomera. Though it looks rather unassuming from the outside, this restaurant has a wonderfully traditional feel with a beautiful terrace area that's decked with plants. With an owner that's passionate about fishing, the seafood and fresh fish dishes are a must-try here.

Tasca Restaurante El Carraca

Further north, in the area of Vallehermoso, Tasca Restaurante El Carraca is a fabulous choice for dinner. The menu here is large and varied, with many typically Spanish dishes such as paella and local tapas dishes. After a tasty meal, guests can retire to the bar for a glass of wine or a beer.

Things To Do In La Gomera In November

Virgin of Guadalupe San Sebastian

In August, the Canary Islands often celebrate the Virgin of Guadalupe San Sebastian. The city of San Sebastian has its own patron saint and celebrates largely at sea, with a statue of the Virgin Mary being moved via boat along the coast. Interestingly, this celebration is only observed every five years, but you might be lucky enough to witness it if you time your visit right. If you miss out on the celebration, don't worry; the picturesque village of San Sebastian de la Gomera itself has attractions that merit a visit. This small town is filled with quaint, winding streets where you can wander and find historic towers and buildings.

Boating Organisations

If you'd like to enjoy the view of La Gomera from the sea, consider booking an excursion on one of the local boating organisations. These companies offer tours and boats for hire that include fishing as well as dolphin and whale watching.  Whale and dolphin watching is usually best during the spring, but there is no time of the year that isn't worth your time.
