La Gomera is one of Spain's Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of Africa. Somewhat quieter than the other islands, La Gomera's main draws are its craggy mountainous scenery, beautiful natural hiking trails and of course, its pleasant sub-tropical climate which stays warm all year round.

What's The Weather Like In La Gomera In June

June marks the official beginning of the summer season in La Gomera, making it one of the most popular times to visit the island. Although this is a busy time, the lack of mass tourism means the region never feels too crowded, so visitors can enjoy the wonderful weather on the beach or in one of the towns around the island.

La Gomera Beaches For June

While La Gomera isn't your typical beach resort, the island does cater to those who want to dip their toes in the sand or paddle in the ocean. Its coast is dotted with beautiful secluded coves and peaceful beaches backed by spectacular mountain landscape.

Playa de San Sebastian/Playa de la Cueva

Located in the Valle Gran Rey, the Playa del Ingles is one of the most popular beaches on the island. It may not be everyone's cup of tea though, as it is a 'clothing optional' beach. Despite the clothing, or lack thereof, the beach is gorgeous with a contrast of soft sand beaches and rocky formations. For a more kid-friendly option, head to Playa de San Sebastian or Playa de la Cueva. Both of these beaches are located just a short distance from the centre of San Sebastian and are beautiful, quiet beaches perfect for sunbathing and sandcastle building.

Bars And Restaurants

Holiday makers looking for a true Gomerian dining experience should head straight to Restaurante El Puerto. Sitting by the port in Valle Gran Rey, this traditional eatery specialises in local delicacies and fresh fish such as medregal and peto, as well as a great value set menu. Seafood lovers and those who like to experience new tastes will not be disappointed here.

Casa Efigenia

Close to the border of Garonjay, Casa Efigenia is a long-standing institution ran by the same family since the 1960s. The vegetarian menu is a delight for all (even those who like meat) with traditional Canarian dishes such as vegetable stews, soups and homemade breads. Visitors can even sample the restaurant's own label wine.

San Sebastian's Market

For those travellers who are enjoying a self-catering holiday in La Gomera, San Sebastian's market is a great place to pick up ingredients and fresh produce as well as local delicacies such as palm honey and Gomerian goat's cheese. Mercado Municipal is a fun way to spend a few hours and guarantees a delicious lunch or dinner.

Things To Do In La Gomera In June

St. John's Day

June brings one of the most exuberant and unique holidays to the Canary Islands: St. John's Day, or el Dia de San Juan. This festival marks the unofficial beginning of summer as it falls close to the summer solstice. Feasts and processions culminate in bonfires on the beach. People even jump over the bonfire to showcase their courage and the fire symbolises cleansing and striving towards purity.

Hiking

Although temperatures are rising, June is still a great time for a walking holiday in La Gomera. Visitors to the island can pack their walking boots and head to the main trails and paths located in Garajonay, La Gomera's National Park. Situated right at the heart of the island, this area is home to many mountains including the tallest peak, the Alto de Garjonay which experienced walkers can climb. At the top, you'll be rewarded with views across the ocean and as far as the other Canary Islands.
