Sitting in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of Africa, is the beautiful island of La Gomera. This island is actually the smallest of the Canary Islands at just 370km² and remains relatively unspoiled by mass tourism. Instead of high rise hotels and British pubs, here you will find wonderful walking trails and rugged mountain scenery.

Temperature

During the summer season, July is almost always warm and sunny in La Gomera.  At least 12 hours of sunshine warm the island each day during the month and there's a 71% chance of a sunny day. Almost the hottest month of the year, temperatures are continuing to rise in July, although it could feel cooler in the mountains. The temperature can range anywhere between lows of 19°C up to highs of 26°C. The average daily temperature ends up hovering around 23°C, but either way, it should never feel too cold in La Gomera in July. In fact, visitors are advised to wear sunscreen and always take care at the hottest part of the day, between 12 and 3pm.

Sea Temperature

La Gomera Beaches For July

The island of La Gomera has 90km of natural, sandy beaches that can be enjoyed all year round, but July is an especially great time of the year for sunbathing and splashing in the sea. As temperatures rise and the sun shines for longer, tourists and locals alike flock to the island's serene beaches and secluded coves.

Playa de Ingles

One of the best beaches in Las Gomera is Playa de Ingles in the beautiful Valle Gran Rey. This beach remains unspoiled, with its large expanse of soft sand and backdrop of rocky cliffs providing a picturesque setting to soak up the rays. There is also a selection of shops and restaurants located conveniently close by. Be warned though this is a 'clothing optional' beach!

As an island surrounded by Atlantic Ocean, La Gomera is a great place to sample some fresh fish dishes. Restaurante Tagoror in Playa Santiago takes full advantage of its ocean-side location, with a superb seafood menu that includes homemade paella, grilled fish and calamari. Spectacular sea views add to the wonderful ambience.

Restaurante Cuatro Caminos

Canarian staples such as meat stews, chorizo and grilled octopus can all be found at Restaurante Cuatro Caminos in San Sebastian. Dishes are served in an outdoor patio dining room where plants hang from the ceiling. With reasonable prices and a varied menu, this restaurant is a great option for families and couples alike.

El Sueno de Yanni

For those with a sweet tooth don't miss El Sueno de Yanni. Located in Valle Gran Rey, this popular café serves some of the best homemade ice cream on the island. Visitors can also enjoy a selection of hot drinks, including the Canarian specialty of 'cortado de leche y leche', a sweet drink made with condensed milk.

Virgin del Carmen's Day

In July, La Gomera and the other Canary Islands celebrate the Virgin del Carmen's Day. The Virgin del Carmen is the patron saint of sailors - a population that was critical in the development and growth of the Canary Islands. Because she is the patron saint of sailors, these holidays are particularly well-celebrated in the coastal towns of La Gomera. The saint is honoured on all islands as the Virgin's statue is transported from island to island by boat.

Tecina Golf course

If you'd like to relax and play a round or two of golf, La Gomera has a golf course with some of the best views in the world: the Tecina Golf course.  This 18-hole course shoulders the ocean and has views of the other Canary Islands and even Mount Teide on Tenerife. The golf course is set up on a slope with the first hole on the top and the 18th hole at the base.
