Deniz Kyzy

Deniz Kyzy, or Mermaid Beach, is a private stretch of sand in a horseshoe bay. Set just below two major hotels, it can get busy, especially in the high summer season. Water sports are abound, with everything from windsurfing to water skiing.

The fare is decadent, from ciabattas to pear and gorgonzola sandwiches, and the service impeccable. Be sure to try the hot chocolate, made from melted chocolate and not powder.

Culture and Art Festival

The botanical garden offers a perfect peaceful natural setting for a picnic and a siesta; both enjoyed amid beds of heavenly scented flowers and verdant shady plants and trees. On property there is a small cafe--a great spot to relax with an afternoon coffee or snack. Do note there is a small entrance fee.

Kyrenia Castle

At Kyrenia Castle, you can catch an impressive and gruesome display of waxwork mannequins. The theme is torture and imprisonment, so be prepared to see waxwork torturers, guards and prisoners dressed in loincloths. Now complete with replicas of traditional torture devices.

Lapta

Explore nearby villages and towns. Lapta is just 9 miles west of Kyrenia, surrounded by the Besparmak Mountains. The village offers easy access to beaches and stunning views of water and mountains. Lapta is renowned locally for its freshwater springs. The drive west from Kyrenia is also dotted with sandy beaches, bays and seafood restaurants. Near Famagusta, the Monastery of St. Barnabas contains one of the most impressive collections of Greek Orthodox and Byzantine Art. Spend an afternoon marvelling at saints and biblical scenes, before idling away the sunset hours in a cafe nearby.
