Mare Monte Beach

Mare Monte beach belongs to the eponymous hotel and though private it is extremely popular with the locals. Onsite facilities include the usual bar, showers, and sun loungers. The ruins of the 13th century port of Lambousa are nearby, though they are at the moment closed to visitors.

Erol's

Erol's is a popular local restaurant that serves traditional grilled dishes, like kebabs, steak and fresh fish. The outdoor terrace seating is great for summer months. It is a family-run place set in a renovated barn.

Silver Rocks

Silver Rocks is a large restaurant that serves seafood and traditional British fare. Located next to the sea, it's the perfect place to catch the sunset over dinner. The staff is friendly and all dishes are reasonably priced.

Carpenters

Carpenters has a festive, fun atmosphere with tables laid out in the garden. The traditional Cypriot menu offers mezzes, shrimp and steak. Ask for the specials of smoked salmon rolls or calf's liver.

Things to Do in Kyrenia in August

Grape and Wine Festivals

Keep your eyes peeled for the Mehmetcik Grape Festival, in Galatia, Famagusta, which is located a few miles from the resort. Other major festivals during this month include Limassol Wine Festival starting from early August to September in the Municipal Gardens of Limassol.

Hiking Tours

St. Hilarion Castle

One of Kyrenia's must-visit attractions includes St. Hilarion Castle, an ancient architectural site and prime photo opportunity. The former monastery was built in the 10th century and is located on the Kyrenia mountain range. It's one of three former strongholds in the area. Saint Hilarion, along with nearby castles Buffavento and Kantara, was the defence of the island against Arab pirates. Captured by Richard the Lionheart during the Third Crusade, some say it served as the inspiration of Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle. Its steep, 3,000-ft climb is well-worth the sensational view.

Shipwreck Museum

In Kyrenia Castle, history-buffs will delight in the Shipwreck Museum. Here you can see the remarkably preserved remains of a ship that sank off the coast more than 2,000 years ago. Rediscovered in 1967, you can view the ship and its contents cargo of preserved almonds in 400 amphorae.
