Weather Lowdown
October is the rainiest month of the year in Kuredu, with the chance of sharp downpours, sometimes torrential, and the odd storm with high winds. Now that's the bad news out of the way...
When you put this into perspective, this month experiences around 16 days throughout its entirety which are affected by rain to some degree. Now, think about the previous month of September, which experienced only one day less the variations are slight, so you're not going to have a particularly different holiday between months at this time of year. The wet season is in place for a few months, however temperatures and sun hours are very similar to other times of the year, and the sea temperature certainly holds its own.
You can expect an average temperature of around 28°C, which can reach a high of 30°C on average at the hotter times of the day, with a high level of humidity in general. The gentle sea breeze does make this more bearable however. The evening low temperature doesn't fall below 25°C, which means evenings out are certainly mild, and a walk along the beach before or after dinner is a great way to spend your time together, whilst also being romantic for those enjoying a break with a special someone.
You can expect a wonderful 8 hours of sunshine per day, meaning despite the label 'wet season', you're going to have a traditional summer holiday in paradise, with fantastic weather. Of course, that also means beach time, and that is certainly possible, with an average sea temperature of 28°C throughout the month.
Despite the slightly higher chance of rain, this is a great time to visit a very laid back resort, and it is entirely possible to grab a cheaper deal as a result of this statistic, albeit one which won't affect your break too much at all.
Where to Stay
The slightly higher chance of rain during the month of October means you need to find accommodation which can easily entertain you during the odd rainy day of your holiday. Thankfully, the island's main hotel, and only major resort, Kuredu Island Resort Hotel & Spa, has more than enough facilities to do just that.
Accommodation ranges from those famous bungalows on wooden stilts over the sea, to beach side or garden villas, with equal luxury and opulence whichever you go for. The O Resort side of the hotel is the most luxurious, so if you want something seriously special, and you don't mind splashing the cash, then go for this side of the island. Whichever you choose from, guests need to be 12 years or over in terms of age.
The hotel has everything you could ever want, and has a holiday club vibe, which although vibrant and lively, isn't too 'in your face' for those who simply want relaxation.
If you would prefer to avoid the major resort side of things however, then you will need to head off the island for your base, and simply visit during the day or night. Amilla Fushi is around 51km away from the main resort, and is located on Finolhus island. This is a villa accommodation option, with everything on-site you could need, including stunning views of the ocean, perfect for chilling out at the end of a long day.
What to Do
The Maldives are home to one of the most famous wreck diving sites in the world, and Kuredu's most iconic site is without a doubt the Shipyard.
Intermediate and advanced divers should not miss this experience, and Prodivers again can give you tours and advice on how best to explore this wonderful site.
This is an area which is dominated by two large wrecks, one of which protrudes up from the surface of the ocean, and the other which lies beneath. There is a large amount of marine-life around these wrecks, as well as being very interesting to explore in their own right. This is a must do experience for those who are au-fait with diving and feel confident enough to head off and enjoy.
Alternatively, if you want to stay on dry land, check out the main resort's new tennis court. All inclusive guests can enjoy this bookable activity for free, and you can play either doubles or singles, with equipment included. Check out the programme of activities during your stay as there are weekly guest tournaments, where you can get a little competitive if you feel the need. Despite the fact that October is the rainiest month of the year, there are easily many dry days too, making tennis a great way to spend your time.
Restaurants and Nightlife
Sometimes you don't want a full meal, and you simply want a drink and a cake, and in that case, head to Sai Kotari Tea House. Aside from offering a mouth-watering range of pastries, there is the rather beautiful setting to take into consideration, jutting right out into the ocean. This is a great place to chill out as the sun goes down.
Alternatively, however, if you're not sure what kind of food is taking your fancy of an evening, head to one of the buffet restaurants around the resort. Sangu Restaurant is a popular choice, and one you will need to make a reservation for. The large wine cellar is ideal for that romantic night out, and with plentiful food on offer, you can sit and make yourself very full indeed.
