Weather Lowdown

The dry season continues in Kuredu as March arrives, bringing with it equally as fantastic weather as the previous month of February. This is a very popular month to visit in the Maldives for those seeking high temperatures and a traditional beach break in paradise, as this is the hottest month of the year on average; despite the fact that the temperature is only a degree or two higher than the previous months!

You can expect an average temperature of around 29°C, which can hit as high as 31°C as an average high, before falling to around the 26°C mark during the evening hours. Whilst you will notice a major difference between the day and night temperatures, the high humidity will be more evident during the day. There is generally always a light breeze, which makes conditions more comfortable.

You can easily cool down in the refreshing waters of the Indian Ocean, with an average water temperature of around 29°C, retaining its warmth throughout the month; simply a paddle in the sea is enough to cool you down, without having to head out too far. Despite that, trips by boat are very popular at this time of year, as well as fishing and diving.

Of course, rain is a possibility regardless of the month, however the dry season is called 'dry' for a reason. This month experiences around 7 days of rain throughout the month, however that doesn't mean 7 complete days of rain, just being affected to a degree. It's not unusual to experience a freak downfall, however it will probably stop just as quick as it started. To counteract that, you can expect around 9 hours of sunshine per day throughout the month, which will certainly be hot, hot, hot, and will give you that tan you've been dreaming of.

Where to Stay

March is a fantastic time to visit Kuredu Island Resort & Spa Hotel, the island's main resort, and one which promises everything you could ever want or need for your holiday on this beautiful island. The hotel is huge, and is basically an entire resort in its own right. Because of this, you can choose many different accommodation types to suit your needs, and a very popular option is the Jacuzzi Beach Villas.

As the name suggests, these are on the beach and they have a private Jacuzzi, which is the ideal way to unwind after a day enjoying the fun of the resort. Each villa has a spacious bedroom with a sitting area and large bathroom. There are three different locations for this type of accommodation, so it basically depends which part of the island you want to be on, but the O Jacuzzi Beach Villas promise the best in terms of romance, located on the south-east of the island.

If you want something a little less like a major resort, and something more home away from home and intimate, then try Naifaru Residence Guest House, located on the island of Naifaru, around 15km from Kuredu again, the island is easily reached.

This home away from home guest house is large and spacious, promising a fully-fitted kitchen, flat screen TV, balcony, dining, area and free Wi-Fi for staying totally connected. This is a great budget option for those who want something much quieter for their holiday in the Maldives.

What to Do

March is the hottest month of the year and that also means it is probably the most vibrant too. The resort is brimming with activities at this time, and one of the most popular is without a doubt a game or two of golf. Kuredu Island Resort Hotel & Spa has its own golf course, which is situated on the eastern side of the island, shrouded by greenery and forest setting, overlooking the blue of the ocean. If you're looking for a game in the most peaceful surroundings possible, this is it.

Beginners can get expert tuition from the on-site Head Pro, who is PGA qualified, and there are even night golf opportunities for something a little different.

The course itself is full sized and is 6 hole par 3, meaning whether you're advanced or simply wanting to give it a go for the first time, you will find conditions to suit you. This is one of the most popular activities on the island, simply because it is so relaxing, and the conditions are so beautiful as a backdrop. The golf course bar will also help you cool down on those rather hot and humid days.

Of course, most visitors to the Maldives overall want to check out the underwater world, and snorkelling is a good way to start, as a slightly less advanced water-sport, compared to diving. Prodivers, the island's top diving school, offer snorkelling trips, as well as a reef safari, which is a full day or half day where you head out with a guide to explore the colourful reefs, brimming with marine-life of all manner of varieties.

Hit the Beach

If you're aiming to find the epitome of a stunning beach, i.e. the paradise you have in your mind, then Kuredu's beaches will certainly tick that box. The entire coastline of the island is lined by pillow-soft white sand and clear waters, perfect for swimming and enjoying a cool down from the sometimes intense heat. The ever-present slight breeze will help your beach day seem much more comfortable.

You will find sun-loungers and parasols on offer, and the fact that the resort is for ages 12 upwards means beaches are generally quieter than some other resorts open to all ages. On top of this, because March is the hottest month of the year, you will find sitting in the shade and chilling out with this scene in front of you is certainly the highlight of your holiday.

Restaurants and Nightlife

Those guests staying in the Sulthan Pool Villas of the resort can head to Sangu Restaurant without a reservation, however everyone else will need to call ahead to book a table. This is a beautiful buffet-style restaurant with a romantic vibe in the air, including a famous wine cellar with more bottles of wine than you can ever imagine! Guests need to be over 18 years old to visit this particular restaurant, and you can choose to sit inside or out during your dining.

Alternatively, if you're after a wild party night out, then check out the White Party, held at the Babuna Bar. This is a party where you have to wear white, otherwise you're not allowed in, and the music is all down to the hands of the resident DJ, famous throughout the Maldives. This is a great fun night out, and perfect for letting your hair down.
