Weather Lowdown

The weather picture in Kuredu during the month of August is a very similar pattern to the previous month of July, which again means we are in the midst of the wet season in the region. You can expect around 14 days affected by rain to some degree or another, however these downpours can be sharp and unpredictable, so the best advice is to carry an umbrella and be prepared to dive into the nearest bar for a refreshment until the shower passes, which it inevitably will!

The wet season in this part of the world is certainly not a reason to avoid it, and the beauty and stunning scenery on offer more than makes up for the slight chance of a bit of rain. On top of this, visiting at this time of year will also give you slightly cheaper deals, whilst also maintaining plenty of sun you can expect an average of 7 long hours of sunshine per day at this time, with an average temperature around the 28°C mark, which can rise as high as 30°C during the hottest part of the day.

The temperature throughout the year in the Maldives overall never really fluctuates to any huge degree, however you can notice a slight difference across the months. The evening temperature at this time of year is still very high, only reaching as low as 25°C, and with high humidity this can make a good night's sleep difficult if you don't accept the offer of air conditioning at the check in desk.

Of course, any visit to this paradise destination in the world should involve some beach time and a spot of diving or snorkelling if you know how. The Indian Ocean temperature is warm regardless of the month, and this particular time of year averages at around 28°C perfect for a cool down from the sometimes humid conditions on offer.

Where to Stay

Visiting Kuredu during the month of August can be an unpredictable business in terms of weather, so you need an accommodation choice which gives you everything you could ever need, to cater for wet and dry days in equal measures. Kuredu Island Resort Hotel & Spa has been designed to do exactly that, with enough entertainment options both undercover and outdoors to fulfil your every whim.

Rooms are also very comfortable, and you basically choose your level of luxury; even the most basic budget option is seriously opulent, meaning you get to live your rest and relaxation dream in beautiful surroundings. The hotel spans the whole island, and which part of the island you are in totally depends on which budget choice you go for if you're honeymooning, certainly splash the cash and ask for the Honeymoon Suite, with the facilities which make a major difference to your special holiday.

Alternatively, staying away from the main resort can give you a different take on the region, and around 48km from Kuredu you will find the beautiful and quiet Ungoofaar Inn. This is located on Raa Atoll, and is literally a stone's throw away from the beach, with a private area for guests. Wi-Fi comes as standard, with cosy rooms, away from the louder parts of the region. The on-site restaurant will also fulfil your foodie needs.

What to Do

August's dry days are the ideal opportunity to enjoy the water-based fun which the Maldives overall offer. This is a great way to cool down from the sometimes high humidity, as well as being great fun.

If you're heading towards Male for the day or a couple of days, make sure you check out the extremely popular Whale Submarine Maldives. This is a huge submarine which takes you below the surface of the ocean and helps you check out the wonderful and colourful inhabitants of the Indian Ocean, without getting wet!

Kuredu itself is home to the largest watersports centre in the country, so it's a good idea to take full advantage of its facilities whilst you're visiting the island. The Ocean Water Sports Centre is full of fun activities to enjoy, such as canoeing, paddleboarding, catamaran sailing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, and waterskiing. There aren't many activities which aren't catered for, so simply as the friendly instructors. The on-site café also helps you chill out between sports, or you could simply sip a refreshing drink and watch everyone else try their hand at a few watersport activities.

The main hotel resort on the island also offers some fantastic craft classes, to perhaps help you learn a new skill during your break. On top of this, these activities aim to help the local community, so you can give something back whilst you're learning. Classes change regularly, so check out the up to date programme, however past classes have included sushi making, palm leaf craft, and food carving.

Hit the Beach

Whilst most islands consist of one large hotel resort which dominates their space, it is possible to visit these other islands and enjoy the beach facilities, by purchasing day passes. Reethi Beach in the Baa Atoll is a beautiful place to visit, with a wider beach, giving you more space to enjoy the plentiful water-sports and relaxation facilities on offer.

As with all the beaches in this stunning archipelago, you can expect blinding and soft white sand, ocean so clear you won't believe your eyes, and marine-life swimming around your feet as you paddle out into the shallows. This is as close to paradise as you're likely to get.

Restaurants and Nightlife

If you're enjoying a spot of golf and the early evening rolls around before you realise it, then stay where you are and enjoy the facilities of the Golf Bar. Great for a refreshment during a game, but also where many large sporting games are shown on big screen TVs, including major football games. You can chill out here and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere.

For something a little more idyllic however, check out the Sai Kotari Tea House. This is sat on the end of the boardwalk, jutting out into the sea, and is fantastic for sitting and chilling out with a drink in hand. The cakes here are also second to none, and you can enjoy the view with your choice of beverage.
