August marks another month of dry winter for Kruger, South Africa. There is minimal rain at this time of the year only 9mm in fact. The average temperatures are 18C, 9C at the lowest mark and 27C at a high. Winter is the best time of the year to visit Kruger as there is little vegetation, so the animals can't really hide. They are also especially active right now in terms of searching for food and water.
As well as boasting wonderful wildlife, the park is home to the Thulamela archaeological site, which dates back to the Iron Age. Anyone over the age of 12 can visit it; it is recommended to book at least one week in advance.
Witness Kruger Park's wildlife at night at the Letaba Rest Camp, which is located in the north of the park. Letaba means "river of sand" and this camp offers great viewing possibilities especially if you're hoping to see elephants and lions.
Just like in any other camp, there are all sorts of activities available, but unsurprisingly most of them revolve around wildlife observance, trailing, bush walks and so on.
