What's the weather like in Koh Tao in August?

Also known as "Turtle Island", Koh Tao is a small island located in the Gulf of Thailand. It forms a trio with the nearby islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. Despite its size, Koh Tao is a popular tourist destination, and attracts thousands of visitors every year with its excellent diving opportunities, beautiful beaches and tropical weather.

Koh Tao has a similar climate to the rest of Thailand with hot temperatures, sunshine and rainfall. Monsoon winds divide the year into three distinct seasons; the dry season, the hot season and the wet season.

Temperature

August is still hot season in Koh Tao and sees the same sizzling weather as June and July. Visitors can expect temperature readings between lows of 24°C and 31°C. The average temperature is around 28°C. Along with high levels of humidity, this can feel extremely hot and travellers should be well prepared for this. Those who struggle with hot temperatures may want to plan their visit in the dry season, which sees slightly cooler weather.

Rain

The rains also continue in August, though refreshing showers may be welcomed in the heat. The average rainfall this month has risen to 167mm with rainfall on 16 days. There's a 33% chance of a rainy day on average. With rain comes clouds, and there's a 57% chance of a cloudy day.

Sunshine Hours

One of the biggest draws to Koh Tao is its sunny weather; the island sees over 300 days of sunshine a year. August maintains the same 6 sunshine hours per day, which provides plenty of time to hit the beach.

Sea Temperature

The sea around Kho Tao is warm enough for swimming, snorkelling and diving all year round. In August, the average sea temperature is a lovely 29°C and will stay that way until November. Find out more about how we calculate these averages.
