What's the weather like in Ko Lipe in August?

Temperature

Ko LipeThailand, is an amazing tropical island in the Andaman Sea off the Thai west coast. In August, temperatures average 28°C, one degree higher than the average temperature in July. 28°C is the annual daily average, but it's good to know that temperatures barely vary at all throughout the year. The lowest average temperature is 27°C and the highest is 29°C. Daytime highs in August are an undeniably tropical 31°C, while the nighttime low temperature doesn't drop below 24°C. Sea Temperature

The temperature of the Andaman Sea averages 30°C, which is as warm as it has been for four months. The sea temperature will remain this warm in September as well, before it drops one degree to its annual "low" in October.

Amenities include a restaurant and bar, laundry service, massage treatments, tourist information and transportation by minibus, taxi and even speedboat and ferry.

 

Beaches in Ko Lipe in August

Although August is in the middle of the monsoon season, rain showers tend to be short and you will without question still find time to enjoy the beaches of the island. There are three main beaches.

Sunrise and Sunset Beach

Sunrise Beach occupies the east coast of the island, facing the direction of the sunrise, while Sunset Beach is located on the north coast and faces west, the direction of the sunset. Both places are within walking distance from one another, allowing you to enjoy both a spectacular tropical sunrise, one of the best in Thailand, and a magical sunset.

Pattaya Beach

The third main beach is Pattaya Beach, which is located on the island's south coast and is the most popular and populated of the three beaches. In between those three beaches, there are several smaller, quieter, and sometimes private beaches.

Bars and Restaurants

Jack's Jungle

Located only 200 metres from Sunset Beach, Jack's Jungle is one of the most well-known restaurants on the island. It's been around for about ten years and offers a unique dining experience. Housed in an open wooden house, the restaurant serves great Thai foodarticularly the fried chicken, garlic and pepper shrimp, and Penang and Massaman curry are deliciousn a wonderful authentic atmosphere. August is a quiet season, but in high season, reservations are essential.

Harmony Bed & Bakery

A nice place to go for coffee and baked goods is Harmony Bed & Bakery. They also serve fresh fruit juices, sandwiches, shakes and smoothies, and pizzas and pastas. It is conveniently located 2 minutes from Walking Street, 10 minutes from Sunrise Beach and 20 minutes from Sunset Beach.

Things to do in Ko Lipe in August

Ko Butang

Ko Butang is also known as Stingray City, an apt name for this dive spot. Ko Butang is part of the island group around Ko Lipe, a group that consists of  numerous islands. The island itself is home to a plethora of birds and other animals. Macaques live on the island as does the bee-eater bird. On the north side of the island is Monkey Bay.

There, you can see the local wildlife or dive Ko Butang, which is filled with a stingray population. The dive spot has some steep drop offs, but also shallow coral that's excellent for snorkelling. There are plenty of dive shops in Ko Lipe that offer dive lessons and organise dive excursions to the best dive sites in the archipelago, including Ko Butang.

Tarutao National Marine Park

One of the major attractions in this part of Thailand is Tarutao National Marine Park. This 1480km² park comprises 51 islands of the Tarutao group and the Adang-Rawi group, of which Ko Lipe is also parthe island lies right outside the national marine park, though, which is why development is allowed. You can stay on two islands within the park, Ko Tarutao and Ko Adang, which have tent sites and a small number of bungalows. There's an abundance of wildlife in the park and you will most likely spot macaques, boar and langurs. If you're after a secluded tropical island experience, this is the place to go.
