What's the Weather like in Ko Lanta in February

February in Ko Lanta not only offers some of the driest weather of the entire year, it is also the least humid month in this part of Thailand. This means that many people will come to the island to enjoy the warm sunshine of the season, without the claustrophobic humidity that can occur at other times of the year.

February is also the last month of the year before the annual heat wave in Thailand begins. And for those that want to enjoy as much warmth as possible, without the overpowering heat of the highest temperatures of the year, this is the month to come.

Temperature

Average high temperatures reach up to an incredible 34°C. However with a 10% chance of a cloudy day, there is some respite from the sun at this time of the year. Though historically, it did reach an incredible 38°C in February 1989.

Sea Temperature

For those that want to enjoy the warm sea temperatures, it is wise to ensure lots of sun protection. Though there usually isn't much wind at this time of the year to hide the intensity of heat, the power of the sun can still be very deceptive.

Even at night, the temperatures remain warm. Usually average low temperatures will not fall below 24°C, offering the same conditions as previous months. Yet as the month gets closer to the peak temperatures in March and April, there is a greater chance of the nights becoming uncomfortable for those without air conditioning.

Rainfall

However, rain is never an issue in February. Even if there is some rain in January, it is unlikely that February will follow suit. With only 10mm of precipitation forecast for the entire month, even if there is a shower, it is likely to be at night. This leaves the days warm, clear and very bright.

Hit the Beach

Long Beach

As the name suggest, at 4km long, Long Beach is one of the longest beaches on Ko Lanta. And it is one of the most popular too. Locally known as Phra Ae, the beach is situated on the north of the island and is covered in beautiful white sand. But in the peak February month, you will definitely not be the only ones trying to find a spot. There are plenty of facilities directly on the beach including several bars and restaurants and many different massage services. At the weekends especially, stay into the evening and see the parties begin. This is a place where the fun never has to end.

Lanta Klong Nin Beach

Whether you want somewhere to sit and enjoy the sunset, or to have a day in the sea, Lanta Klong Nin Beach is always worth a visit. The many hotels, restaurants and bars in this area show just how popular this location is. But with less of a crowd than Long Beach or Khlong Dao beach, even in February, you should always be able to find a spot. If the tide is out, make sure you wear shoes to the water's edge because there are a vast number of stones at the mouth. But when you are in, the sea is warm and clear, offering the perfect base for any beach holiday.

Bars and Restaurants

Mr Wees Pizza

If you are spending a day at Long Beach, then the only place to go for a pizza is Mr Wees Pizza. Yes, there are other things on the menu, but people come from miles around to enjoy his crusty base. And you shouldn't be any different. Situated almost directly on the beach, the service is friendly, the variety of toppings is exceptional and the cheese is something else. Even though it's a popular place, prices are still very good. And frankly, if you haven't had pizza from Mr Wees, you really don't know what you are missing.

Why Not Bar

As the name suggests almost anything goes in the Why Not Bar. It's a great place for evening drinks or a fun night out. And as it is based directly on the beach at Kantaing Bay, the views are just as incredible as the food. Look out for a fire show for a great way to spend the evening. On other nights there will be live music to entertain. The cocktails are well blended, the beer is cool and the prices are very affordable.

Saladan Seafood

To enjoy some of the best seafood on the island, head down to Saladan Seafood in Ban Sala Dan. This beautiful restaurant sits on stilts over the water to create a truly magical atmosphere. Everything on the menu has been freshly caught by local fisherman so it is always nice and fresh. And with a wide variety of side dishes and wines to compliment your meal, you really couldn't want anything else. Try the BBQ prawns or dressed crab for a particular delight. Or let the staff show you what is good that day. That way you always know you are eating the very best.

Mu Koh Lanta National Park

Officially Mu Koh Lanta National Park covers the entire 52 square miles of Koh Lanta and its neighbouring islands. However the headquarters on Lanta itself is a place no visitor should miss. With walking and driving trails around some of the most beautiful parts of the island, this is a trip that will put you at one with nature and ensure you see the true beauty of Ko Lanta. On your journey discover the lighthouse and enjoy the view from the top. There are plenty of picnic areas and public facilities.
