According to the weather statistics, June is one of the wettest months of the year in this corner of the world. Ko Chang experiences heavy downpours during this time of year, which is an indication that the rainy season is in full swing. This season starts in May and lasts all through October.
The amount of rainfall received this month is considerably high, totaling at 502mm. Only July, August and September are wetter, but only slightly. There are 13 days with rainfall, which, of course, also means that there are still 18 dry days. The probability that rainfall occurs ranges between 61% and 66%, which is almost as high as it ever gets on the island. When visiting Ko Chang this time of year, you should expect two types of precipitation: thunderstorms and moderate rain, occurring respectively on 42% and 40% of those 13 rainy days. Light rain might be seen as well; heavy rain is possible, but quite unlikely. This is a very humid period, so be aware of, and prepared for that.
It is still hot, toot's a tropical island, after allith temperatures averaging about 30°C in the afternoon and 23°C at night. These temperatures basically stay the same all throughout the month. The overall average temperature is 27°C, just as in May and in July. The sea temperature is at its annual maximum, as it has been for two months, and averages 30°C. The water's visibility isn't ideal, though, because of the higher winds and rainfall that cause turbulence. Snorkelling and scuba diving aren't recommended.
Visitors should expect to enjoy 7 hours of sunshine per day, which is still not too bad considering that this is the rainy (and therefore cloudy) time of year. It is also the low season in Ko Chang now, so many hotelsspecially those located near the beachlose up for a few months.
