Kavos is not one of the locations they usually frequent during the winter months however. This means that, for tourists who want a quiet, relaxing vacation, December is a perfect time of year to visit.

Those who are planning to take children, older people, or those who don't enjoy the loud bars, cafés and discos of the city, can opt to visit during one of these quieter months for the sights and food without the crowd.

People who live in cooler weather areas will not mind the December temperatures. They can still tour the town, surrounding towns, the island, or the mainland in comfort.

An added bonus of travelling during this time of year is that many shops lower their prices considerably. Also, there are lots of affordable cafés that offer an authentic taste of Greek cuisine.

New Year's Eve 👥

“Kali Chronia” or “Chronia Polla” is the usual New Year greeting. Locals usually have onions hanging on the front door of the house. Locals believe that onions deflect bad spirits. Another tradition is the cutting of the Vassilopita ”" a sweet cake with a gold coin inside. The person who gets coin is considered blessed and lucky for the rest of the year. At midnight, fireworks displays are held on the beach.
