Jersey is set away from the coast of Normandy in France and is part of the Channel Islands.  The island typically experiences four distinct seasons throughout the year. Rainfall is fairly moderate all year round so it is recommended that visitors come prepared for wet weather, which can range from light showers to heavy rainfall.  However, the weather in Jersey is still favorable because the winters are manageable and you can still venture outdoors and enjoy your holidays. Summer in Jersey

Summer weather is the best time of the year where guest flock to Jersey Island and all the hotels are fully booked to capacity. During this time, the weather is warm and temperatures are highest during the year.

The average temperatures for summer months are June 14°C (57F), July 17°C (62F), August 17°C (62F) and September 16°C (60F). July and August are the hottest months of summer in Jersey Islands.

The highest temperatures during summer months are June 16°C (61F), July 19°C (66F), August 19°C (66F) and September 18°C (64F). The average lows during summer are June 12°C (54F), July 14°C (57F), August 14°C (57F) and September 13°C (55F). The driest months of the year are in summer.

June receives the highest average rainfall of 33mm, July 30mm and August 30mm. July and August have the lowest rainfall amounts in the entire year and highest humidity throughout the year at 1%.

Autumn in Jersey

After high temperatures associated with the summer months of June, July, August and early September, Autumn is witnessed later in September, October and November. The average temperatures for autumn months are September 16°C (60F), October 13°C (55F) and November 9°C (48F). During autumn, rainfall begins to increase during this period.

As the months progress, rainfall amounts increase; September 53mm, October 63mm and November 66mm. In autumn, November is the wettest month of the season. Temperatures are lowest in November and if you're travelling to Jersey, be prepared for chilly weather as some frost is likely to occur.

Winter in Jersey

Winter is the coldest period of the year in Jersey with an average of 6°C (42F) for the three months of winter which are DecemberJanuary and February. The average temperature during winter is December 7°C (45F), January 6°C (42F) and February 6°C (42F). The coldest months of winter and the entire year are January and February.

During winter, Jersey may receive some frost and therefore, visitors are advised to carry warm clothing including wolly socks and warm jumpers to brave the chilly weather.

The best part is winter weather in Jersey isn't so severe to prevent you from enjoying your holiday. Guests are advised to check local weather forecasts before planning to travel to Jersey at this time. Aside from the chilly weather, Jersey experiences rainfall in winter even though the intensity decreases as winter progresses.

December is the wettest month of the year with the month closing with 69mm of rainfall. In Januaryrainfall intensity drops to 56mm and further reduces to 43mm at the end of the February.

Despite cold weather, visitors to Jersey should also brace themselves for rain for some days of the month. 19 days in December and January receive rainfall while February follows with 16 days of rain. It's worth noting winter has the highest wind speeds in the year with wind intensity reducing as winter progresses. 

December has the highest wind speeds in the year (18.2-19.0 miles per hour). In January, the intensity reduces to 18.0 miles per hour and 16.4 miles per hour at the end of February. Winter time has the lowest humidity which remains at 0% from December to February.

Spring in Jersey

Temperatures in spring are slightly warmer and everyone is excited because the chilly winter season is over. Spring covers the months of MarchApril and May. The average temperatures for the month are March 8°C (46F), April 9°C (47F) and May 12°C (53F). During spring, temperatures begin to rise gradually and by the time it gets to May, Jersey is excited as the summer season kicks in.

In spring, Jersey experiences some frost in March and April but May is perfectly fine. At this time of the year, rainfall begins to reduce with average rainfall for the spring months as follows; March 40mm, April 35mm and May 35mm. March receives rainfall for 17 days while April and May both have 15 days of rainfall.

March receives the highest rainfall in spring. At spring time, the wind speed reduces from 16.3 miles per hour at the start of March to 12.3 miles per hour at the end of May.

Extreme Cold Temperatures

Like any other destination in the world, Jersey also has its fair share of bad weather. However, compared to many other destinations around the globe, Jersey weather is known to be mild throughout the year and rarely gets to extreme conditions. In addition, winter also experiences strong waves of more than 26ft (8m) and winds of 50 Knots that have in the past disrupted ferry services between Jersey, Guernsey, Southampton and Portsmouth.

In January 2018, Storm Eleanor with speeds of over 100 miles per hour hit the entire United Kingdom causing severe damage in many places including the Channel Islands. Strong winds and high tidal waves occasionally hit Jersey causing debris and large rocks to be tossed onto the island and trees uprooted.
