Jandia is a peninsula on Fuerteventura, an island in the Canary Islands archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean off the north coast of Africa. Because of this location, even December, the first month of winter in many other destinations in the Northern Hemisphere, brings moderate warmth accompanied by somewhat dry weather. Therefore, it is a prime time for outdoor activities. The average daily temperature is 19°C, which is quite high for the time of year. It is, however, always quite warm in these partsven January and February, the "coldest" months, have an average temperature that is no lower than 17°C. The afternoons enjoy an average high temperature of 21°C, while the mercury drops to an average low of 16°C at night. Those temperatures do decrease in the course of the month. The beginning of December is one to two degrees warmer than the end.
Rain is a rare occurrence during the month of December. The total amount of rainfall that hits the resort's beaches this month is no more than 21mm, spread out over 5 days with rainfall. This, however, makes December the second wettest month of the whole year, together with November and after February. This fact shows what a dry destination this actually is. There are, for instance, 26 days without any rainfall at all. This could be considered to be the wet part of the yearnd it technically isut the word "wet" doesn't accurately describe the actual weather conditions, which are undeniably dry, warm and sunny. There is a 16% chance of experiencing any type of precipitation throughout the month, which is the highest chance of the entire year. If it does rain, it may occur as one of three main types of rainfall. Drizzle is most likely to fall down, being observed on 40% of the days with rainfall. Moderate rain and light rain may happen as well, respectively on 31% and 24% of those days. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are exceptionally unlikely to occur in this area.
Cloud cover ranges between 46% and 51% (the annual maximum) throughout December. Simply put, this means that generally speaking the sky is partly cloudy this month. Clear blue skies can be expected on 24% of the time; overcast skies occur only 15% of the time.
December is also characterised by relatively short days. December 21 is the shortest day of the year, with 10.20 hours of daylight. The other days of the month are only slightly longer.
Both of these two factors influence the amount of sunrays that hit the resort and its beaches this time of year. In December, there are 8 hours of sunshine per day on averagehe same as in January. This makes it the least sunny month of the year. However, 8 hours of sunshine each day is something that most other places can only dream of in winter.
December is a popular time for tourists because they want to escape the colder climates. Because the weather is great throughout the month, it is a great time for nature walks, Jeep rides, visiting historic sites, swimming, jet skiing and even participating in various water sports. With the pretty weather, it is no surprise that people from regions with colder winter months enjoy winter holidays to Fuerteventura and the other islands, such as Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife. Because of the popularity of the region in Decembert's a popular destination to spend the holidayseservations for December trips should be made as far in advance as possible.
