What's the Weather like in Icmeler in May
Temperature
In the course of May the weather slowly but steadily moves towards summer. The average daily temperature in Icmeler in May is 17°C, a significant six-degree increase since April. The average daily high temperatures climb above the 20°C mark for the first time in the year and now are a comfortable 21°C. The average daily lows remain fairly cool though, at 12°C. Those temperatures rise in the course of month; they rise significantly actually, with a four-degree difference between May 1 and May 31.
Sea Temperature
The temperature of the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas also begins to rise. It now is 19°C, which is still warmer than the temperature of the air. In comparison, the sea temperature is coldest in February and March at 16°C and warmest in August and September at a very comfortable 25°C.
Sunshine
Another significant increase is seen in the amount of sunshine per day. The average day in May has nine hours of sunshine, a significant three-hour increase since April. April is the fifth-sunniest month of the year, after the four summer months June, July, August and September. The days also lengthen in the course of the month; the length of the days increases by 47 minutes throughout May, a daily increase of 1.5 minutes. May 1 is the shortest day of the month with 13.42 daylight hours. May 31 is the longest day with 14.29 hours of daylight. In April, a day is sunny for about two-thirds of the time.
Cloud
The increase in hours of sunshine is related to the decrease in cloud cover. This decrease is huge in the course of the month. While May 1 still has 52% of cloud cover, by the end of the month, on May 31, cloud cover is 31%, a full 21% less. May 31 is overcast for only 10% of the time. Summer is definitely on its way!
Rainfall
Another major weather factor that is related to cloud cover is precipitation. With less cloud cover comes, of course, less rainfall as well. The total amount of precipitation in May is only 18mm and there are only a handful of rainy days. The chance of rainfall decreases greatly throughout the month. May 1 is the wettest day of the month with a 27% chance of precipitation. May 31 is the driest day with a chance of rainfall of 14%. Three main types of precipitation are observed in May: thunderstorms, light rain and moderate rain. Thunderstorms are the most common, occurring on 54% of all rainy days. Light rain and moderate rain come in second and third, happening on 33% and 12% of the days of rainfall respectively.
May is a transitional month in Icmeler. It marks the end of the wet and cool winter season and the beginning of the extremely dry and hot summer season. This may be the best time of year to visit, as the huge summer crowds haven't arrived yet, the skies are clear and temperatures comfortably warm.
