Ibiza is a small Balaeric island found just under 80km off the coast of Valencia in Spain. Ibiza is also considered to be the world's best party destination as hundreds of thousands of people across the globe flock here during the summer months between July and September to soak up the party atmosphere.
As well as partying, Ibiza is a great place to go to relax on one of the sandy beaches and top up your tan. There are over 60 beaches in Ibiza catering for all needs, whether you want a quiet and secluded beach or a lively spot pumping out house music all day!
Lively beaches
Cala des Moro is a popular beach for sun worshippers located within close proximity to San Antonio's Sunset Strip, where many of the famous bars including Café Del Mar and Mambo can be found. Playa d'en Bossa is the longest beach on the island, measuring over 2km long and between 20 30m wide. Many nightclubs and bars are also dotted along this coastline including the world's best nightclub Space and smaller clubs such as DC10 are just down the road. The clear, tranquil waters and golden sands make it a popular and safe beach for all ages, including windsurfers who flock here once the winds start to pick up.
Benirras Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and can be found just a 10-minute drive away from San Miguel. This small bay is surrounded by pine clad hills and contains a 160m long pebbly beach, making it not so easy to walk into the sea, however it makes a great playground for snorkelers. Portinatx resort contains three small popular beaches including S'Arenal Gros, S'Arenal Petit and Playa Porto, which all have clean, golden sand and panoramic views over the coastline of Ibiza.
Cala Llonga is one of the largest beaches in Ibiza, sprawling across 200m and almost 100m wide. This is a popular beach for everyone including clubbers and young families. There are also many transport links to the popular nightclubs from here including Privilege, Pacha and Space. However, if you want to do a bit of celebrity spotting look no further than Las Salinas Beach on the southern most tip of Ibiza. This pale sand beach has an electric atmosphere, with electro and house music blasting throughout the day from the nearby bars and restaurants including Tahiti & Tiare Beach Bar and Moorea Grill Restaurant.
Family friendly
Cala Bassa Beach offers a 300m long white sand beach, just a 15-minute drive away from San Antonio. Shady pine trees spread out along the back, making it a perfect place to get away from the soaring temperatures at midday. If you and your kids fancy a paddle in the water you may well spot the fish, who will often swim up to your hand if you offer them some food. On the other hand Cala Tarida is a 900m long sheltered bay with clean, clear and shallow waters, perfect for the little ones if they want to have a paddle.
Next to Ibiza Town is the long, curved bay of Talamanca Beach. This is an ideal place for kids as the sand shelves gently into the turquoise waters making it superb for safe bathing. Cala Gracio is a much smaller beach at only 80m long and 40m wide, located outside of San Antonio. The waters here are very gentle with no extreme waves, making it a perfect beach for small children and nervous swimmers.
Water sports
If you fancy having a go at scuba diving look no further than Cala Tarida beach found to the west of the island. Here you will find the ORCASUB diving center run by professional divers. This experienced diving team will take you out to some of the most attractive diving spots in Spain, including the Nature Reserve of Cala d'Hort.
Off the beaten track you will find Cala Boix, just a 10-minute drive away from San Carlos. This is a haven for surfers due its large waves and unusual grey sands. Lifeguards are also present here so you don't have to worry when going out for a swim.
Cala Bassa is a large white sand beach found near San Antonio. This 300m long beach is one of the most popular spots in Ibiza due to its many water sports including banana boats, pedaloes and boat excursions. This beach is also a great place to play some volleyball with family and friends! Whilst staying in Ibiza it's highly recommended to have a go at parasailing at Take off Ibiza in San Antonio.
Secluded
You can't get any more private than Atlantis beach next to Es Vedra rock. This place is a well-kept secret by locals. If you're staying in San Carlos Playa es Figueral is only 10-minutes away. This 350m long beach is a favourite for locals and Italian tourists who want to top up their tan. The clear, shallow waters are also ideal for small children and lifeguards are present on this beach.
Cala Xarraca is a small 90m long quiet beach found near Portinatx. This is the perfect place to sunbathe and read a book or take some lovely pictures of the natural landscape. There's also a convenient mud bath found at the far end of the beach with healing properties. Cala Salada is another secluded beach located near San Antonio, surrounded by pine trees. The beautiful pristine waters here make it a great swimming spot!
