Bordiehn's Restaurant is a must-visit for carnivores in search of a good meal. Situated along the new marina, this award-winning eatery boasts a varied menu full of hearty dishes such as camel steak, beef tenderloin, New York strip and rib eye steak, as well as a small selection of seafood for those who don't fancy meat. Bordiehn's Restaurant is run by German owners who have also added a number of German items to the menu.
China Town
If you find yourself craving Chinese food during your festive holiday in Hurghada, make sure you visit China Town. Known for its low prices and generous portions, this restaurant serves all your favourite Asian dishes, including spring rolls, fried vegetables, pot stickers, BBQ beef, duck with pancakes and sweet and sour chicken. If you can't finish your entire dish, the friendly servers will be happy to wrap up the leftovers so you can take them back to your hotel.
Things to do in Hurghada in December
El Dahar
For some last minute unique Christmas gifts for family and friends back home, head to the El Dahar area; the old town. Hurghada's largest bazaar is located here, selling all sorts of traditional Egyptian goods and crafts such as polished brass and handmade jewellery. It's not unusual to see a few donkeys roaming the streets, too. Don't forget to haggle; a saving of 75 per cent off the original asking price is normal in these circumstances.
Senzo Mall
For a larger choice and a more familiar shopping environment, check out the Senzo Mall, just south of the city centre. As well a standard souvenir shops, there's a supermarket which is interesting to look around and see all the local Egyptian delicacies, and there's a children's play area which is great for those travelling with little ones.
Dates for the diary
Obviously there's Christmas and New Year's Eve and day to celebrate, although expect lower key festivities than you'd experience in Europe.
Victory Day on December 23rd is marked in commemoration of the 1973 Yom Kippur War between Israel and a coalition of Arab nations, which included Egypt.
