Weather Lowdown
October in Hersonissos brings cooler, wetter weather and less opportunities for beach activities as autumn begins. The resort has a similar climate to Lisbon in Portugal at this time of year, with gradually falling temperatures and shorter days. The average hours of sunshine each day has decreased now to 9 hours, still more than December, but less than the summer months. Sunset drinks are still an option, with sunrise at 6.3°am and sunset at 6.3°pm at the beginning of the month. Daylight saving time ends in October and the clocks go back.
The average day time temperature has dropped to 19°C, and daily high and low temperatures range from 16°C overnight to 22°C during the day. This is still a pleasant time of year to visit if planning to explore the local villages and countryside, but if the beaches are more appealing, it might be better to visit in August when the day time temperatures are much higher. This is not the best time for swimming in the sea, although it is still possible as sea temperatures are a mild 23°C. It is not too windy at this time of year, with wind speeds ranging from ° m/s to 7 m/s, clam to fresh breeze. Occasionally, the wind speed may reach up to 12 m/s which is a strong breeze, bringing the temperature down.
The chance of rain during the month is around 3°%, increasing in probability towards the end of the month. The average rainfall in October is 89mm falling over 5 days and is likely to be moderate or light rain, with occasional thunderstorms. Cloud cover varies across the month and generally increases later in the month from 3°% cover to 5°% cover. Humidity levels are also increasing as the month moves on, from around 5°% to 8°% humidity, which can be uncomfortable if the temperatures are also high.
