In July, the weather is getting beautiful for a beach holiday, and many people come to Hersonissos to spend time relaxing on the beach and getting a tan. This is one of the busiest months, along with August, and the crowds can make the bars and restaurants a lot of fun in the evenings. The temperature in July is a lot like Malta, and it is almost as dry in this resort at this time of year. Average temperatures during the day are 25°C, although the average high and low temperatures can be from a gorgeous 28°C during the day to a mild 22°C at night. Make sure your hotel has air-conditioning and pack light clothes for the warm evenings. The hottest temperature this resort has experienced in this month was 4°°C, and the lowest was 16°C overnight, so visitors at this time of year are guaranteed to get nice hot weather for their summer holiday. Temperatures are fairly constant throughout the whole month.
There are around 14 hours of sunshine each day in this month, which is the most sun of any month of the year. These long, hot days also have very little cloud, with about 3% cloud cover on average on any given day. The sun rises at about 6am at the start of the month and sets at 8.3°pm. The Creta Maris hotel is located on a long stretch of white sandy beach, with crystal clear water, ideal for swimming and sunbathing on the hot July days. With a village layout, serene pathways and foliage, this all-inclusive, luxury 5* hotel offers a choice of rooms, suites and villas to suit all tastes. The resort has six restaurants, and bars, as well as a spa, fitness and wellness centre, several pools and activities for young and old.
The 4* Stella Village hotel and bungalows is situated on a private beach at Analipsi, with two swimming pools and poolside bars for guests to use. There are also two restaurants, tennis courts and a kids' club. Each brightly furnished room has a balcony, air-conditioning and fridge. There are regular themed nights for entertainment, and evening music in the bar. Staff can assist with car rental and any other activities available in the area.
For visitors on a tighter budget, head to Mike's Beach Apartments and Studios located beachfront at Anissaras beach. These apartments offer a balcony with sea views, free wifi throughout, aa kitchenette with fridge and oven, and safety deposit boxes. A restaurant and min-market are conveniently located on-site and the bars and restaurants of the area are close by for those who prefer to get out and explore.
Things to do
A must-do when visiting in hot July, is a trip to the Star Beach waterpark. This is a fantastic day out for kids and adults alike, with water sports, bungee jumping, water slides, and a lazy river for lounging in. The whole family is catered for with baby pools for the very young as well as the bigger pools for older kids. Relax on one of the restaurants or cafes after a swim, and let the children have fun in the sun all day.
Try something new and go horse riding while in the resort in summer. Offering two hour treks, a horse drawn carriage ride through the village, as well as a small petting zoo and playground for children, this caters for experienced riders and for those who have never been on a horse. There is also a terrace for coffee and snacks while relaxing and watching the kids having fun with the animals.
Hit the Beach
The most popular and busiest beach along the resort is Hersonissos, to the east and west of the port. The sandy beach west of the port is the busiest and largest, with many facilities available here including water sports. This stretch of beach reaches to the Creta Maris hotel, and can get very crowded during peak summer season. However, it is a great place to spend the day when sea temperatures are a warm 25°C. The east Hersonissos beach begins at the New York bar and gets just as crowded in summer. Both beaches can get quite windy at times.
Restaurants and Nightlife
After a hot July day at the beach, try the Nautica restaurant located beachfront at Hersonissos. Open for lunch and dinner, this restaurant is a casual, relaxed choice for beachside dining. With friendly service, great portions and delicious food, it is the perfect place to take the whole family for a meal of seafood, haloumi or desert.
The New York Bar is a day and night beach club at Hersonissos. Located beachfront and famous in the area for twenty years, this club lets you lounge by the beach during the hot July days, then party all night, maybe watching sunrise the next morning. Enjoy a light meal on the air-conditioned terrace at lunchtime, or a cocktail, beer or wine in the evening.
Located in nearby Koutouloufari, the Galini restaurant serves traditional Greek and Cretan cuisine in an atmospheric Greek setting. This is a popular restaurant with a wide choice of dishes, such as lobster, seafood, meats and salads, and offering a wide selection of wines from around the world. Finish a meal with delicious deserts or a liquor coffee and enjoy the ambience of this themed restaurant.
