IRAKLIO - good base to explore Crete

Weather
Windy - sea too rough to swim but walked along some beautiful beaches. We were told by the locals the seasonal wind was early this year it normally comes in Sept. Temp was around mid 70's to lower 80's/ F 20-30 C, but the wind made it feel cooler than this so it was easy to burn if not careful. Shops plentiful and both local and imported goods available. We will be going back this year to on of the resorts on the North coast.
Holiday
Went self - catering as we like to try the local cuisine - food excellent everywhere we tried had fresh ingredients and a good selection good for vegetarians as there are many local specialities based around veg (I'm not a veggie btw).
Accommodation was basic but we expected that for S/C, however it was clean and had fridge cooker etc. aircon was extra but we didn't need it.Recommend Heraklion to others?

The weather was gorgeous. Not a cloud in the sky for the whole two weeks!! The temperature was in the 90s.
Holiday
Brilliant! I stay with family every year and wouldn't go anywhere else as it is just perfect.
Recommend Heraklion to others?
