What's the Weather Like in Heraklion in February

Temperature

It is the middle of winter in Heraklion, which is located on the north coast of Crete, and this month has an average temperature of 12°C which is one of the lowest in the year. This is fairly cool so you may need a jacket when visiting at this time of year but you can still make the most of indoor attractions or go on private tours. During this winter month, you may experience high temperatures of up to 15°C which is the lowest in the year alongside January and evening temperatures will dip to a chilly 9°C.

Rainfall

While the average temperature is at its lowest, the average monthly rainfall is at a high 80mm falling over an average of 12 days which is the second highest in the year so you might want to pack an umbrella.

Sunshine

During the month, you will get an average of 4 hours of sunshine per day which is the lowest in the year, but March will see a couple more hours of sun.

Sea  Temperature

The average sea temperature is at its annual low, being a cool 16°C and for most people, this temperature will feel bracing and will only allow for a quick dip, if you're brave!

Wind

The chance of there being a windy day in February is 45% which is the same as in January when it is also 45% but higher than in March when it drops to 39% a spring approaches. The weather is very similar to the other locations nearby, such as Chania, although this has slightly chillier evenings and more rain this month.

It is highly recommended for its great location, beautiful rooms, value for money and good cleanliness. It is a small family run hotel but the service and rooms are of quality. Each room has its own kitchen which is fully equipped and modern.

Hotel Pension Rea

One of the most popular places to stay when visiting Heraklion is the Hotel Pension Rea which is a 1 star hotel that is very popular among couples. It comes highly recommended for its great location and good cleanliness and is a very helpful hotel. The manager of the hotel will make sure you have an enjoyable stay and is always on hand to help with anything. The staff can also recommend the best places to eat around the hotel.

 

Bars and Restaurants

Pepe Nero

If you love Italian food then we certainly recommend visiting Pepe Nero which is an Italian restaurant with some even going as far as to say it is the best Italian restaurant in Heraklion. You can either eat in at the restaurant to enjoy the ambience or you can take out. All the pasta is homemade from scratch which is why this restaurant is so very popular and the pasta dishes taste so great.

Minos Restaurant

If you love seafood then try the Minos Restaurant which is a seafood and Greek restaurant where you can have a very yummy lunch or dinner. It is situated above the street and has a great traditional Greek décor and feel about it. The Chesses Saganaki and Aubergines is a highly recommended starter and the Chicken and Pork Souvlaki is highly recommended for a main course.

Morosini Fountain

An absolute must see is the Morosini Fountain which is also known as Lion's Fountain. It isn't a very easy place to find but locals will be able to help if you get stuck. It is a very romantic looking fountain and surrounded by lovely restaurants and very cosy coffee shops. The fountain, which is hundreds of years old, has been very well preserved and is truly a mesmerising work of art with beautiful Venetian stone. It is a great place to just sit and watch the world go by.
