Sunshine Hours

The number of sunshine hours, which is usually around 5 hours per day, remains virtually unchanged in June when compared with May. Yet, clouds hide the sky for the biggest part of the day. According to certain observations, the sky over Hanoi during June is sunny 37% of daylight hours. The remaining share of 63% belongs to overcast or mostly cloudy weather.

The second month of the rainy season brings increasing amounts of precipitation to this city. In June, the accumulation of rainfall is, on average, 20% higher than in May. Vietnam's largest city receives around 240 mm/9.45 in of rainfall on average during this month. The number of wet days, in general, is between 14 and 18. Hence, this parameter remains virtually unchanged from the previous month, which indicates heavier storms this time of year.

The chance that any day will be wet ranges between 46% and 50% in the course of June in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. Statistically speaking, noon is most likely time of day for rain, but, in reality, the storm can take place anytime. What's more, the duration of downpour is unpredictable since it could last half an hour or a few days in continuity.

Extraordinary Weather Occurances

This time of year, typhoons may be responsible for the increase of average precipitation levels in Hanoi. These fierce tropical storms, which are usually the strongest from July to October, might cause heavy flooding, trigger landslides and uproot trees. One such typhoon took place in August 2012. Even if these fail to hit the city, prolonged precipitation tends to cause flooding in large parts of the city.
