Things to do in Hanoi in July

Temple of Literature

Temple of Literature is one of the top attractions of Hanoi, the Vietnamese capital. The place came into existence in the 11th century, and today, it is one of tranquil spots in the hectic city. As the name of the place implies, the Temple of Literature is a place devoted to learning and religion. As if to uphold the fact, students pray in front of altars for favorable grades here.

Each of the temple's 5 courtyards has its own essence. For example, one of them is devoted to Confucius, one of the greatest philosophers in history. In one of other courtyards, you can see the names of honored doctors listed above the backs of turtles, which symbolize intelligence in the local mythology.

Approximately at the time when the Temple of Literature was founded, the water puppet show  came into existence, too. Such a performance emerged to daylight from the need of rice farmers to somehow entertain themselves in flooded fields.

Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre

The Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre in Hanoi Old Quarter is an acclaimed venue for this particular form of performing arts. The show is a display of the utmost skill of puppeteers who remain behind the scene completely cut off and "blind." If you are curious about the puppet show, book seats in advance.

Quang Ba Flower Market

Quang Ba Flower Market isn't the only flower market in Hanoi, but is the most popular for sure. Its opening hours are from approx. 2 am to noon. But if you aren't an early riser or are unwilling to wait until late, come around midnight. Then, you can "welcome" vendors that arrive with the abundance of flowers. For the best experience, plan to arrive between 2 am and 4 am. Besides actual flowers, you will have a pleasure to examine decorations made of papers, decorative baskets and other related stuff.
