Hammamet Yasmine is a tourist town located in northeastern Tunisia, situated on the edge of the Gulf of Hammamet near of the northern peninsula of Cap Bon. The weather throughout the year ranges from warm to hot, because of its location in the middle of the Mediterranean coast of North Africa. During the summer, there are average temperatures up in the 30s, however the sea breezes cool off the region in the evenings. Rainfall is low during the summer, but it gets wetter and colder in the winter with temperatures averaging at about 16ºC.
Tourists are lured every summer to Hammamet Yasmine for its renowned beaches, swimming and water sports. The first tourist destination in Tunisia, Hammamet Yasmine is notorious for its fragrant jasmine.
There are seemingly two seasons in this temperate region, summer and winter, with slight changes in spring and autumn. Winter weather is pleasant but unpredictable, making summer the most popular time to visit this resort area. The conditions in Hammamet Yasmine are like other Mediterranean climates such as Sicily, Serbia and Crete.
Summer in Hammamet Yasmine happens from June to August when temperatures reach the mid 30s. There is little to no rain during the summer. In July, there is almost no rain at all, and eleven hours of sunshine to enjoy outdoor activities including cooling off in the sea. June is very hot, however there are lower temperatures in the 20s during July and August for those who want to avoid the excessive heat. The area has a mild climate, making it cooler than most of Tunisia. Early and late summer evenings can cool to an average of 12ºC, or fall even lower.
Autumn in Hammamet Yasmine extends from September through November with high daytime temperatures up to the 20s. Rainfall increases in October, but the weather is still fairly mild for tourists looking to experience coastal life. Average temperatures in October are still about 20ºC but rain falls more often during the autumn months.
Winter is wetter and much colder than the summertime. From December to February, temperatures during the day average around 16ºC. Night-time temperatures can fall to below freezing. There is an average of eight days of rainfall during December, and there is just four hours of sunshine per day in January.
Spring in Hammamet Yasmine is also chilly, but starts getting warmer in April and May. March has only six hours of sunlight a day. Temperatures climb to about 20ºC in April and May. Rainfall during these months tends to be low. By May, the warm summer weather starts to take over.
Weather Hazards
During the autumn, tourists can experience increased rainfall and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Sometimes these storms can cause flash floods and other types of flooding. January 2012, flash floods turned certain roads near the beach into rivers for a while, however the poor weather conditions tend to be short-lived with warmer weather quickly on the horizon. The greatest concern is not getting caught at the beach during floods, thunderstorms, and the windstorms that can happen in the spring.
