Halkidiki also known as 'Chalkidiki' is a large peninsula shaped like three fingers, found in Northern Greece. The region may be very popular with tourists but it boasts some of the most untouched and beautiful scenery in the whole of the country.
There are a wide range of hotels found in Halkidiki, anything from traditional Mediterranean Greek villas to modern hotel complexes. If you are looking to spend most of your time by the beach you're in luck as there are many hotels dotted along the coastline, whilst some even offer their own private beaches. One of the most popular places to stay at is in the resort of Sani where you will find many high quality hotels offering all the facilities you could possibly wish for.
If you are travelling to Halkidiki by plane, the nearest airport is Thessaloniki International Airport, which is located just under 50 miles away from the three peninsulas.
Budget
There's plenty of low-cost accommodation around Halkidiki whether you want a cheap hotel or a self-catering apartment.
Loli Village is a three-star resort found in Pefkohori and is only a short distance away from Kassandra beach. This resort is full of lush gardens, fountains and an outdoor pool is found right in the middle. Or if you are thinking of staying in the area of Afitos look no further than the popular Nostos Hotel. Choose from two seasonal pools or relax in either the sauna or steam room, whilst if you feel like doing some exercise head to the fitness centre on site.
Another option to think of is Halkidiki Palace, found in Hanioti. This three-star hotel offers a buffet breakfast every morning and is only 150 metres away from the nearest beach. Whilst the Stamos Hotel in Afitos is within close proximity to the surrounding beaches in the area, as well as boasting an inviting outdoor swimming pool. Or if you are looking for accommodation in Hanioti, try the Hilltop Hotel. This family run hotel offers a large outdoor pool and a sun terrace and if you want to spend the day sunbathing, Hanioti Beach is only 600 metres away.
Self-catering
There's a wide range of self-catering options in Halkidiki depending on your price range.
Hotel Porto Koufo in Koufos is a three-star apartment hotel which offers spacious rooms with stunning sea views, whilst some rooms also come equipped with a dining area and kitchen if you specify. Whilst Hotel Paralio in Possidi features comfortable rooms complete with fully equipped kitchenettes and satellite TVs. Or if you want a break from cooking there's also the option of eating at the buffet breakfast served every day.
On the other hand Pegasus Hotel offers studio rooms and self-catering apartments with balconies and well-equipped kitchenettes. If you fancy spending the day topping up your tan head to the outdoor pool or just 150 metres away is Chanioti beach. Another cheap option to look into are the Maistrali Beach Studios which offer large studio rooms with kitchenettes and dining facilities overlooking lush gardens, olive trees and the Aegean Sea. Or why not stay at Hotel Apartments Royal in Polykhrono which offers two outdoor swimming pools, free Wi-fi and balconies overlooking the pool and surrounding area.
All inclusive
These hotels tend to be a bit more expensive, however you can sit back and relax knowing everything is paid for.
The Oceania Club & Spa is a new Mediterranean resort built in Nea Moudania. This family-friendly hotel is surrounded by beautiful pine trees, olive groves and Cyprus trees. Whilst the Chrousso Village in Paliouri can be found on the tip of Halkidiki's Kassandra Peninsula and offers two swimming pools and a poolside bar.
If you're looking for somewhere cheaper try the Atrium Hotel Halkidiki which is located just a short walk away from the nearest beaches, whilst if you would rather take the bus, there's also a complimentary shuttle service which will take you here. Or there's the Village Mare Hotel situated in Sithonia which features a fresh water swimming pool and is only one mile away from the centre of Metamorfosis.
On the beach
You will have no problem in finding a hotel located on one of Halkidiki's many golden-sand beaches.
If you're looking for a top end hotel by the beach then Porto Carras Meliton could be just the type of accommodation you are looking for. Take part in many different types of activities from tennis to golf, or relax on the 9km long white sand beach. Or there's Porto Carras Sithonia in Neos Marmaras, which is a luxurious five-star hotel offering a state-of-the-art spa as well as many facilities including a basketball court, a beach and a football pitch. Whilst the exotic Kassandra Palace in Kriopigi is situated along a private sandy beach and features a restaurant which overlooks the Aegon Sea.
Hotel Porto Koufo is a three-star hotel located only a few steps away from the beachfront of Koufos. Start your day off with a tasty breakfast in the garden next to the beach, then head to one of the free sun loungers on this white sand beach. Whilst Port Marina Hotel in Pefkohori is just a short walk from the beach and offers an Olympic-sized pool with complimentary sunbeds and parasols.
Top end
Halkidiki has no shortage of luxury five-star hotels, many of them are found in the resort of Sani.
The five-star Sani Asterias Suites features its own private golden sand beach as well as an outdoor swimming pool overlooking the marina. Whilst the Achtis Hotel located in the picturesque village of Kassandra Afitos guarantees a relaxing holiday in an exotic ambience.
On the other hand Porto Sani Village, also found in the Sani Resort is a five-star which offers Mediterranean suites as well as a tennis court, sauna and private beach area. If you want to stay somewhere secluded then this place may be just for you! Or there's the Sani Beach Club Resort which sits right next to Sani's award winning Blue Flag beaches as well as boasting an outdoor swimming pool where you can try a bit of aqua aerobics! Or why not try the spacious Oceania Club which offers two swimming pools, a buffet restaurant and three a la carte restaurants to choose from.
With a spa
There are many spa hotels around Halkidiki to help you unwind on your holiday in Greece, however these tend to be rather expensive.
The five-star Porto Carras Meliton is a stunning hotel situated along a 9km stretch of beach which has received various awards for its amazing spa treatments, high salinity pool and six hydro-baths. Or you could try the modern and Mediterranean themed Aegean Melathron Thalasso Spa Hotel in Kallithea Halkidikis. This five-star hotel features a private beach, a gym, four swimming pools and a tennis court.
Or there's Porto Carras Sithonia located on the beach of Neos Marmaras. Choose from the fitness centre, the spa and wellness centre or spend the evening at the glamorous casino. Whilst the Theophano Imperial Palace in Kallithea Halkidikis offers an inviting indoor pool as well as an outdoor swimming pool. If you want to keep active whilst on holiday have a go at the water and beach aerobics or play on one of the six tennis courts on offer.
Family friendly
Halkidiki is the perfect place to take your kids as many of the hotels offer facilities such as playgrounds, waterslides, tennis courts and swimming pools.
The four-star Sani Beach Hotel in Kassandra backs out onto a private golden beach. The water here is great for activities such as surfing and snorkelling. Another option to think of is Porto Sani Village in Sani which is described by many as a "paradise for families" due to its exclusive location right by the beach and many activities on offer including swimming and tennis.
A cheaper option to think of is the Nostos Hotel in Afitos. All rooms come with a balcony or terrace here, and if you choose to come in winter time you can also request a room with a fireplace. There's lots of things for the kids to do here from swimming in the pool to renting out a bike. Or there's the four-star Blue Dolphin Hotel in Metamorfosis which boasts a wellness centre, swimming pool and private beach! Whilst if you would rather stay in the area of Gerankini Paralia then you could stay at the three-star Hotel Sania Village which offers spacious and colourful rooms and an outdoor pool.
Romantic retreats
Whether you are looking for a low cost Greek villa to stay in or a high end five-star hotel, Halkidiki has a wide range of accommodation on offer for a romantic getaway.
The Achtis is a highly recommended boutique hotel found in the picturesque village of Kassandra Afitos. Spend the day wandering around the garden and pond or relax by the well-designed outdoor pool. There are also organised BBQ and Greek nights at certain times of the year, so don't forget to ask when these are on when you arrive at the hotel. Or you could stay at the elegant and modern Ekies All Senses Resort which is opening during the summer months from April to October. Enjoy a romantic dinner overlooking the ocean and stay in one of the majestic rooms on offer.
On the other hand the Eagles Palace Hotel is a stunning hotel located in Ouranoupolis which offers elegant rooms and suites, as well as bungalows with sea views and even their own private pools! If you are looking for an intimate and romantic hotel then this is definitely the place for you and your partner. Whilst if you want to stay at an authentic Greek style villa look no further than the Country Inn situated in Kallithea Halkidikis. This cosy hotel is found only 200 metres away from Kallithea Beach and offers rooms with balconies overlooking Toroneos Gulf.
B&Bs
If you're looking for somewhere which is cheaper than staying in a hotel or resort, B&Bs can be a great option and there are plenty scattered around Halkidiki.
The Chorostasi Guest House is located in the settlement of Parthenonas at Sithonia. There are only a couple of rooms here, so it's best to book early. Each room comes with air conditioning, Wi Fi and some even have their own balcony. Or why not stay at the Aegean Blue Studios in Afitos which boast stunning views over the ocean and Toroneos gulf. Each studio room features an orthopaedic mattress and there are many facilities on offer from an outdoor pool to a poolside café-bar.
Or you could stay at the highly recommended Athos Bay Villa in Ammouliani which offers an outdoor pool and free parking if you choose to hire out a car for the duration of you stay. Another option to look into is the traditional Hotel Liotopi in Olympiada which offers a homemade breakfast every morning in the courtyard and boasts sea views from many of the charming little bedrooms.
