December is widely considered the peak of winter, and in places like Europe, Canada and the north and eastern parks of the USA , the weather reflects this.
Half Moon Cay isn't like those places though, and it's 'peak of winter' has an average high temperature of a very warm 26°C (79°F) and average low temperature of 18°C (65°F).
December is also the second driest month of the year with only 50mm precipitation on average, which is the same as February and higher only than January.
It is, along with January, the least sunny month of the year, averaging 7 hours of sunshine a day, and the sea temperature drops from November but at 26°C (78.8°F) it is higher than January through to April.
If you find that the sea is too cold, you can just head over to a water sports centre where you can rent sailboats or kayaks, or relax in a floating foam mat. There are also fun and intriguing aqua-cycles you can use.Half Moon Cay boasts an incredible number of activities, and one
of them is a global favourite: horse
riding. Saddle a horse up and you can enjoy a leisurely trot through the
golden sands and shallow depths of the water, or even ride to the island's
highest point for some stunning views.
When you've completed the activities, you can enjoy Christmas on the beach, cocktail in one hand and a marvellous sunset appearing before you. December 26 is the Bahamas' Christmas celebration and you can witness attendees attired in masquerade costumes on the streets, celebrating their West African heritage.
