One thing that will strike you about the Villa Islazul Don Lino is how many people go back there year on year. You will find it in the nearby town of Holguin, offering the chance to nip into the centre for shopping or just head back to the beach as it suits you. This is great for March, when they weather may tempt you to the sea or just out for a wander.
Guardalavaca Beaches for March
There are a few great options if you want to hit the beach, but with the sea at an average temperature of 26°C, if you want to enjoy that somewhere a little less crowded, Playa Covarrubias is a good choice. This stretch of beach is over 5 kilometres long, and though you may have to drive there, it is definitely worth a visit. The nearby resort of Las Tunas offers shopping and other entertainment if you need to make a stop before heading back to the hotel.
Bars and Restaurants
The Bahia del Sol offers a great way to taste traditional local food: everything is served on platters, so that your dining party can sample a little of every dish and share what they like. The prices here are very good, including seafood and other local delicacies.
It may be hidden away out of view, but if you manage to find the Ranchon Los Almedros, you will be rewarded. You can enjoy large portions of lobster, kebabs, chickens, fried plantains, and plenty more local dishes here. You will be able to find it easily if you take a tour with a taxi driver, as many of them like to drop visitors off here for a great experience.
At La Parrillada de la Musica you will find seafood served in a great atmosphere, with live music from a band who will play for you. Also right before your eyes is the chef, who will prepare everything under your watchful gaze for a very low price. Be sure to enjoy a cocktail or two at this growing local hotspot.
Things to do in Guardalavaca in March
If you want to learn how to dive and have never done so before, you should need to head to the Eagle Ray Scuba Diving Center. Located right on the beach and with easy access to the coral reefs under the waves, the instructors here will tell you everything that you need to know.
Scuba diving is a really great way to spend some time, and with the water temperature warmer in March than the average air temperature, it's a good way to enjoy the heat as well. If you are already qualified and have your own equipment, feel free to have at it.
