December is one of the coldest months of the year in Golden Sands.
With only two hours of sunshine each day, this is certainly not the time of year to spend on the resort's famous beaches.
However, with many of the hotels closed the resort is fairly quiet so this is a good time of year to visit if you dislike excessive heat and large crowds.
Accommodation will be cheaper at this time of year as several hotels still remain open.
There is still plenty to see and do around the resort if you visit during December.
Horse riding is very popular in the area, and with a riding school located in the resort you will be kitted out and guided even if you are not an experienced equestrian.
There are numerous sports facilities in the resort, with over 30 tennis courts, volleyball and basketball courts, and several recently built golf courses.
The nearby Golden Sands Natural Park is a must see for any nature lover. Covering nearly 3000 acres, the park houses a huge array of wildlife and plant life, many of them being protected species.
The cool weather allows you to trek or cycle through the park, and another popular option is a jeep safari with an English speaking guide.
To learn more about the history of the area, you can head to one of the rock monasteries, carved into the hills, the ruined 13th century BC palace at Perperikon and the Historical Museum in the nearby village of Balchik.
If you're on holiday with the family, the Melia Grand Hermitage Hotel is a large, popular family resort. The large pool has a separate area for kids and is watched over by lifeguards. Guests have the option of going all inclusive of half board.
