Temperature
The weather in Goa, India in August is very similar to that of July, with consistently warm temperatures throughout the month. At this time of year, the average temperature is 28°C, created by average highs of 30°C during the daytime and lows of 26°C after dark.
Even though it only happens on an average of once every ten days, temperatures have been known to rise above 32°C and drop below 25°C in Goa in July. The highest temperature ever registered in the resort during this month is 37°C, whilst the lowest temperature ever recorded here at this time of year is 13°C.
Since August falls in the middle of the monsoon season in Goa, it's not a popular time to visit, which results in some really cheap holiday deals. Benaulim Beach
Benaulim Beach is the longest beach in Colva, made up of fine white sands lapped by calm, shallow waters which are ideal for swimming. Since it's one of the most popular beaches in the area, it always has a lively party atmosphere, with the small shacks which serve local food and drink being full of tourists throughout the day and evening. There are sun loungers and shades available in front of most beach shacks, plus lifeguards patrolling the beach and a variety of water sports, including windsurfing, jet skiing and parasailing. Dolphins regularly frequent the waters around this beach and there are local fishermen in the area who will take you out on short excursions to see them in return for a small fee.
Arambol Beach
Arambol Beach is one of the most beautiful in Goa, backed by large hills covered in thick greenery. The beach is made up of a combination of soft golden sand and large red-tinted rocks, with a fresh water lagoon being the highlight. This lagoon is fed by hot springs and features sulphurous mud under the water, making a swim in it like a free open-air spa experience. If you don't like the idea of mud underfoot, the sea here is shallow very far out and features relatively gentle waves, making it safe for swimming. There are loads of shacks lining this beach selling everything from local cuisine, seafood and cocktails to water sports, handicrafts and artwork. Bands and solo singers also perform regularly.
Baga Beach
For something with more atmosphere, try Baga Beach. This beach in northern Goa is one of the most popular amongst visitors, thanks to its huge selection of water sports, ranging from jet skiing, kite surfing and wind surfing to wake boarding, parasailing and banana boat rides. Dolphin spotting and round-island trips are also offered by local fishermen. Here the sand is soft and golden, creating ideal sun bathing conditions, and the sea is warm and calm with just a few small waves, making it perfect for visitors of all ages to swim in. You'll find loads of shacks on the beach serving up seafood, local dishes and international cuisine alongside beers, cocktails, spirits and fresh fruit juices.

Despite being located directly on the beach, this shack has a more up-market feel than most shacks, with better quality furniture and great hygiene practises. Things to do in Goa in August
Kala Academy
Kala Academy is one of the few theatres in Goa which hosts a variety of activities, competitions and events throughout the year. The building is comprised of two auditoriums which can seat thousands of visitors, as well as a recording studio and library which is full of books and media about traditional Goan music and arts. Some of the usual events which take place here include open-air theatrical performances, art exhibitions, lectures, book fairs, music concerts and dance recitals, so be sure to check the website to see what's on when you're there. As well as being a culturally entertaining venue, the Kala Academy is also known for its panoramic view of the river and the sea from the back of the building.
The Naval Aviation Museum
The Naval Aviation Museum is the only one of its kind in Asia, open Tuesday to Sunday 10am-5pm. Set on top of a plateau overlooking Bogmalo Beach and the Arabian Sea, the museum is divided into outdoor and indoor sections, both of which are home to various famous aircraft, fire engines, aeroplane engines and helicopter engines. The inside of the museum has been designed to make you feel like you're inside an aircraft and also features displays of aviation-themed paintings, torpedoes, bombs, rockets, missiles, underwater enemy-detecting sensors, protection gear and gadgets. The highlight of the museum is the Multimedia Room in which adults and children can have a first-hand experience of flying in a jet fighter, thanks to the state-of-the-art simulator.
The Mae de Deus Church of Saligao
Goa is overflowing with churches, with one of the most-visited being the Mae de Deus Church of Saligao. Situated in Bardez, this church is best visited after sunset, when it's illuminated by several floor lights, making the impressive architecture even more alluring. The church features Gothic architecture, with a pointed arch, supporting buttresses and belfry, with the main highlight being the gold-painted wooden statue of Mae de Deus, followed by the adorning black stones which were excavated from the church's original location in Old Goa.
