What's the Weather like in Funchal in February

February is similar in temperature to January in FunchalMadeira, but it experiences a lot less rainfall. It's still winter, but the weather is mild and can be very warm a bonus of the Mediterranean climate that characterises the island. It's a great time to visit if you want to catch some winter sun and avoid the crowds that flock to the city in the summer months.

Temperature

During the day temperatures can rise to 18°C and above, but usually hover at around 16°C. At night the temperatures remain mild for this time of year as well, with the mercury rarely dipping below 14°C making al fresco dining a must! If you're visiting Funchal at this time of year, it's a good idea to pack layers. You'll need cooler clothing for the daytime when the sun is warm, but might want an extra layer or two for after dark. Remember to slip some suncream into your luggage as well, as the sun's rays are still strong in February, despite it being winter.

Rainfall

February sees considerably less rainfall than January, with around 80mm falling over an average of 8 days throughout the month. There's still a chance you'll get caught in some showers, though, so pack an umbrella and some waterproofs to stay on the safe side.

Sunshine Hours

As well as a decrease in rain, February also sees a decrease in sunshine hours from January. There's still around 8 hours of sunshine per day, though, meaning there's plenty of time for you to get out and enjoy everything the city has to offer. You might even find yourself with more time to explore because there is likely to be much less rain to hold you back.

All in all, February is a great time to visit Funchal. Thanks to the island's Mediterranean climate, the temperatures are warm and balmy, there is a lot less rainfall than the previous months, and there are much fewer crowds than in summer.
