Fuerteventura Beach for July

La Barreta de Abajo

La Barreta de Abajo is a golden beach which stretches 450m along the north of the island, in La Oliva. Although the sea is very clean and clear, the surf is usually strong and rough making it unsuitable for families with small children. There is a lifeguard service provided and coloured safety flags, so you know when it's safe to enter the sea. There are no other facilities provided, so you'll need to take your own food, drink and shade with you.

Bajo del Dormidero

If you want something safer, consider spending the day at Bajo del Dormidero. This beach is located in Corralejo and is partially protected from the winds, thanks to the large sand dunes which flank the bay. The sea is usually fairly wavy, but not so much as to make swimming remotely dangerous.

The only thing you need to look out for when in the sea are the jutting seaweed-covered rocks which are found several places along the beach. The fine, golden sand is just as clean as the sea and measures around 440 metres long by 30 metres wide. There is a car park 250 metres away from the beach and a small bar which serves local food and drinks on the north side of the bay.

Bars and Restaurants

The Ugly Duckling

The Ugly Duckling is the best restaurant in Corralejo, according to Trip Advisor. Only open on an evening for dinner, this restaurant specialises in Scandinavian cuisine which is served up alongside some of Fuerteventura's very best wines. The beef tenderloin is well recommended here, as well as the rich, chocolate cake served with refreshing lemon sorbet. The service is very professional, but the cosy surroundings make this restaurant feel friendly and intimate. Due to its small size, you'll need to make a reservation if you want to ensure a table.

Bombay Masala

If spicy flavours are your thing, then head straight for Bombay Masala  Also located in Corralejo, in the corner of the main square in Old Town, this Indian restaurant specialises in a vast assortment of authentic curry dishes which are quickly prepared to order. Poppadoms and a selection of pickles are usually provided as a complimentary starter, so keep this in mind when placing your order. Don't let the restaurant's small size and unassuming façade put you off the food here is second to none.

Things to do in Fuerteventura in July

Kitesurfing

Along with August, July is the best month of the year for kite surfing in Fuerteventura. During this time, high pressure hovers over the Atlantic Ocean, whilst a low pressure stays over the Sahara. When the trade winds blow over, the two pressures combine to create reliable cross-shore winds in the north of Fuerteventura. Flag Beach, located 4km out of Corralejo, facing Isla de Lobos is one of the top locations on the island for kite surfing. At this beach, you'll find a kite surfing training school which offers lessons for beginners and board rental for those who know what they're doing.

Scuba Diving

Although Fuerteventura is best known for its wind-based water sports, there are many other water sports to try, such as scuba diving. Abyss Fuerteventura is based in Corralejo in the north of Fuerteventura and organises PADI scuba diving courses for small groups led by a trained, qualified instructor. Bubblemaker and Junior Open Water Diver courses are available for children, whilst Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Diving, Open Water Diver and Open Water Referral courses are available for adults with no or limited previous experience.

Experienced divers can choose between Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, Divemaster or Scuba Review courses. There is also a scuba diving excursion for people who just want to enjoy the sport not qualify.
