What's the Weather like in Faro in March

Temperature 

March signals the coming of spring in FaroPortugal. The Mediterranean climate is warmer and drier than previous winter months. The end of March would be an excellent time to visit with temperatures being more comfortable and less cool.

The temperature averages 15°C (58°F) for the month of March. Highs in March can reach 19°C (66°F), a significant increase from January and February. Lows go down to 10°C (50°F). Temperatures gradually increase throughout March with the last ten days of the month being warmest. During March, the high exceeds 22°C (72°F) or drops below 14°C (58°F) one day in ten. The low falls below 6°C (43°F) or tops 14°C (58°F) one day in ten.

Rain

March experiences almost half of the average rainfall February does with 40mm. This is about an average of 7 days of rainfall or 1 in every 4 days. Drizzle is most common at the beginning of the month, thunderstorms and moderate rain are most common in the middle of the month, and light rain is most common at the end of the month. The average daily humidity lowers to 75%, 5% lower than January and February.  

Sunshine Hours 

The average sunshine hours slightly increases in March to seven. The sunshine hours gradually increase throughout March with the most occurring at the end of the month.

Average sea temperature for March is 17°C (63°F) which remains consistent January-April.

Faro Beach for March

One popular beach option is Ilha de Tavira. This eastern Algarve beach is accessed by ferry from Tavira town centre, taking the ferry is an adventure in itself. Even with the cool sea water temperatures, the more eastern the beach, the warmer the water generally is.  You could test this for yourself and hopefully get lucky. There will be multiple restaurants as well as camping facilities on the island. There is also a reserved area for naturists.

Bars and Restaurants 

With an incredible variety of restaurants, bars, and cafes on hand in Faro you will be spoilt with choice on where to eat & drink.

A great place to beeline for is Bottle Tapas & Wine Bar. Bottle offers both traditional and modern takes on Portuguese Tapas. Enjoy the romantic atmosphere with one of the many wines, gins, and cocktails available. You'll find a nice mix of locals and visitors enjoying the exceptional service found at Bottle.

For something a bit more traditional, head to Aqui Del Rei, which offers authentic Portuguese Cuisine such as cataplana. Weather permitting, you can enjoy the food here in their outdoor tables which sit on a coble stone street in Old Town Faro. It is an excellent value, with the only downside being a bit of a wait, as everything is made from scratch.

Things to do in Faro in March

If travelling at the end of Winter (early March), be sure to take advantage and go on a bird watching trip in AlgarveFormosamar operates the tour for one to four people (140) and explores the Ria Formosa for three hours. The Ria Formosa is one of the most important wetlands for aquatic birds and will have more than 20,000 birds during the Winter months.

If the weather is not great, consider heading to the Maritime Museum (1) on the Faro harbour. The maritime museum, created in 1910, has a vast collection of artefacts that help you understand the maritime and fishing culture of Algarve. The museum is small but well worth the trip. Weather permitting, take a stroll around the museum and admire the cafes and contemporary bars that define the area.
