What's the weather like in Estepona in February

Temperature

Unlike January, February gains a couple of extra degrees here and there, and thus slowly begins the descent into spring. The average temperature is a pleasant 14°C (56°F) throughout the month, with occasional spikes over the third and fourth week. The higher end of the average spectrum is expected to reach 16°C, while the night-time stays cool and crisp at 11°C. It's not exactly time for short sleeves just yet, but it's definitely much more comfortable than other continental countries around this time of the year.

Sunshine Hours

There will be up to 6 hours of sunshine per day, and chances of bright and sunny days increase to 35% on average, which is an encouraging prognosis for those looking to spend a weekend on Costa del Sol on Valentine's Day, for example.

Humidity

Humidity is slightly lower as well, reaching the 70% average which will be more or less present throughout the entire year.

Rainfall

Rainfall stays constant at 83mm, spread over the course of just 10 days. You're bound to get a few consistent showers throughout the first and second week of February, as chances of rain gently drop to 33% on average. Once again, we do recommend packing an umbrella, given the ensemble of both sunny and rainy days at hand for this month and it is always worth checking the local forecast.

Clouds

Chances of clouds also drop slightly to 20% on average, giving way to more sunshine and dry winds from the southeast and south, most of them reaching average speeds of 2.5m/s.

Winds

Chances of windy days stay high at 58% on average, so expect bold waves and strong gusts along the coastline for sure. The splendid Mediterranean Sea keeps its temperature at 16°C (61°F) on average still not recommended for swimming, but always a wonderful sight to behold.

Estepona Hotels for February

Hotel Mediterraneo

Right in front of Estepona's beautiful Rada Beach you will find Hotel Mediterraneo, its twin and double suites going for an enticing £37 per night for couples. Its rooms feature simple and modern décor, most of them complete with a balcony overlooking the sea or the breath-taking mountains. The staff will happily help you pick out the top spots to visit in this area and in Andalusia. This charming little venue is situated in the old town of Estepona, and it's surrounded by restaurants and bars, only a 20-min walk from the bullring and marina area.

Hotel Buenavista

Hotel Buenavista also offers delightful twin and double rooms for just £39 per night, and it's situated in the heart of Estepona, right next to the seafront promenade and beaches. It features a 24-hour reception desk, and all of its rooms come fitted with a TV, free Wi-Fi and en-suite bathroom. There are plenty of golf courses around about 6 of them, to be precise, within 20-min drives from the hotel, and the selection of bars and restaurants within walking distance might be overwhelming, so don't shy away from asking reception for suggestions they know best, after all.

Estepona Beaches for February

Playa El Saladillo

While it's not exactly surf-n-turf time just yet here in Estepona, some of the town's surrounding beaches are still worth visiting when it's nice and dry outside. One good spot to definitely try on a Sunday, for example, is Playa El Saladillo, a semi-urban narrow beach near Costalita. The beach is a 3km stretch of soft sand, complete with inviting beach bars. Mind you, most of them are not open in February, but if you pack a little picnic on your way there, you can easily enjoy the views and the salty sea air, and even "discover" the old watch tower overlooking the sea.

Bars and Restaurants

Restaurante Sur

Part of the prominent gastronomical culture of Spain and these parts of Europe in general, Estepona does not shy away from achieving excellence on both local dishes and international specialities. That being said, Restaurante Sur is a fabulous Argentinian grill which lovingly prepares and serves only top quality meat dishes, cooked on a traditional charcoal grill and complimented by locally sourced vegetables and seasonings.

They also do generous group platters and fish dishes, given the proximity to Estepona's productive marina. This place is perfect for dinner, but while it provides a comfy setting in Plaza Ortiz, it does get busy around the weekends, so we do recommend making reservations rather than simply walking in. The wine list will certainly surprise you with its hearty selection of Spanish and South American reds.

Restaurant Chilli

Highly recommended by tourists and locals alike, Restaurant Chilli serves a full-flavoured selection of Mexican and Indian dishes. They serve lunch and dinner every day, and their host and service are known to be excellent along with the wine and spirit list. Their ingredients are all local and extra attention is paid to the finishing touch of condiments, particularly when dealing with meats and sauces.

Marques Bar

For a spirited drink, good conversation and even better music, you can certainly head down to the Marques Bar, in San Pedro de Alcantara, if the local old town bars of Estepona are not enough for you. This is a spot often preferred by the Dutch community, so you can expect a lively atmosphere complimented by its very friendly Dutch owner. The price range is also very good, and you'll find it to be very cosy in its location on the central shopping street, lined by orange trees.

Things to do in Estepona in February

Los Caireles Riding Club

Even though it's the last month of winter here in Estepona, the city never ceases to amaze in terms of activities and places to see. On the bright and sunny days of February, you can easily go horse-riding at the Los Caireles Riding Club in nearby Marbella they organize trips and excursions to neighbouring mountain villages, along with beginners' lessons, Spanish style dressage and horse training and rental facilities. There's no better way to explore this fabulous slice of Costa del Sol than on horseback, taking all of its beautiful views in, along with the fresh air.

El Chorro

On the third or fourth week, when the rain clouds scatter even more, you can easily go for a walk through El Chorro, and visit the deserted village of Bobastro and its ancient church, built sometime between 879 and 918AD, and carved straight into the rock. This is truly a unique sight to behold and certainly something we'd recommend doing while in Estepona.

Sala de Fiestas Bona Dea

You can also take your significant other (or better said, your Valentine!) to Sala de Fiestas Bona Dea at Nueva Andalucia. They put on a marvellous show of classic ballet and flamenco every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, and there's also a lovely restaurant bar to enjoy earlier on from 9pm. For an audio-visual taste of the Spanish spirit and passion, Bona Dea's shows are definitely a good place to start.

Centro Historico de Estepona

Alternatively, going on walks around Centro Historico de Estepona, the city's old town centre is a good option at any time of the day or night a traditional and beautiful Andalusian ensemble of clean and narrow streets filled with delightful cafes and tapas bars, the building sides adorned with colourful flower pots and the corners flanked by delightful local shops to explore. The people of Estepona are always kind and welcoming with foreigners, and expect nothing but good vibes and helpful hints along the way, especially when making your way through the maze of cobblestone alleyways.
