February is another warm month in El Gouna, Egypt, with an average high temperature of 22°C, an average low of 10°C and an average sea temperature of 21°C. There are also nine hours of sunshine per day and February typically receives just 1mm of rainfall over the month. In short, El Gouna's winter weather can rival the perfect summer weather of any place people might jet off to for a good tan. If this time of year doesn't appeal, you can check the annual averages to find a better month.
The beautiful weather makes outdoor activities enjoyable, and if you're going to be in Egypt then you may as well try camel riding. In Egypt it combines two things: sport, and a traditional way to travel. It also lets you get in the swing of local culture, and is certainly something to tell friends and family about back home. If camel riding doesn't appeal, the town has a small museum with over 90 exhibits, including an exhibition hall of Egyptian paintings by Hussein Bikar. There are plenty of festivals in El Gouna every Friday and Monday in the Abu Tig marina, or Saturdays in Downtown, featuring food, shows and live music.
Hurghada is the second largest city in Egypt and, being only 15 km away, has similar weather to El Gouna. In the first week of February there is the Hurghada International Festival, a 12-day event that starts with a triathlon.
No holiday is perfect without a good accommodation, so luckily the Sheraton Miramar Resort El Gouna is up to the task. Designed by Michael Graves, the resort mixes Arabic styles with the Nubian styles of Egypt. It's built on nine islands and is surrounded by stunning gardens. The food includes regional and has variations including Italian. There are, of course, excellent views of the Red Sea, and, combined with private beaches, live entertainment and volleyball, it's a true slice of paradise.
