September begins a very brief autumn period for Edinburgh, as it won't take long for temperatures to begin to plummet. However, now can be a good time to visit as most of the crowds have gone home and the truly brutal conditions are still a few weeks away. Mornings are, of course, the coldest with average overnight lows falling to 9°C (48°F). These numbers are down significantly from what they were just one month prior. Average afternoon highs have also fallen significantly and now stand at 16°C (61°F).
