The heat of the summer can still be felt in force during September in Djerba. The temperature is no longer as intense as July or August but it is still hot enough to ensure a fabulous trip for anyone looking for some late summer sun.

Temperatures average 26°C throughout the entire month, although the beginning of the month is usually the warmest part of the season.

It is common for average highs during the day to reach up to 30°C throughout September. With the lowest temperature felt day or night usually still averaging a very balmy 22°C.

The number of daily sunshine hours in September is usually the same 9 hours as experienced in August. And with the sea temperatures still averaging an incredible 28°C, Djerba is a fantastic location for anyone looking for a beach holiday in the later part of the year. However, because of the consistent climate, September is traditionally still considered peak season within the region, which means it could be a challenge to find any bargain holidays just yet.

It is usual that there is some rainfall in September. And though it only equates to an average 20mm of rain spread over 5 days of the month, this precipitation does increase humidity levels. This means that even though it is slightly warmer in August, by the end of September, humidity levels can make it feel more uncomfortable.

Thankfully, with the increase in chance of rain, also comes the chance of a windy day. Therefore the majority of the humidity increase can often be combatted by the growing level of movement in the air.

And while there is never really much chance of cloud cover in September, there can be up to 5 days of the month that will see some white clouds in the sky. However it is likely that the hot climate and strength of the sun will soon burn any obstacles away to enjoy another good day in Djerba.

Where to Stay

For those that choose to stay in Hasdrubal Thalassa & Spa Djerba, it is not only the luxury accommodation that draws them in, but also the incredible architecture that the resort has been based on. To complement the buildings, the landscape across this resort is second to none. And with spacious rooms, a fastidious attention to high quality service and outstanding amenities, this hotel is truly wonderful. Book half board service to take advantage of the delicious food served within the restaurant, or spend your days lounging on the private beach. With full spa facilities and indoor and outdoor pools, no one will ever regret staying at Hasdrubal Thalassa & Spa Djerba.

If you want to avoid all the trappings of staying in a large scale resort in Djerba, the Menzelcaja is a wonderful alternative. Though the scale is by no means as big as the largest complexes, there is plenty of room by the pool for everyone. The rooms are beautifully spacious and the restaurant has ample space. The central Zone Touristique is a short drive away, but there are still many pubs and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel to enjoy. This is a far more laid back alterantive to the traditional Djerba resort and it can be much kinder to your wallet too.

Dar Jasmin Djerba is a small, intimate hotel in Midoun, and a beautiful place to stay in Djerba. There are four different suits to choose from but all are spacious, well decorated and maintained to a very high standard. The large pool area is surrounded by palm trees and Aloe Vera. While the views from the terraces are simply sublime. Though you will have to book early to secure a room in September, with all amenities very close at hand, this is a wonderful way to enjoy all that Djerba has to offer.

Things to Do

As the weather cools, this the perfect time to get out on your bike in Djerba. Most of the island is very flat, ensuring plenty of access for people on two wheels. The lower levels of crowds in September ensure the narrower streets become more accessible. And with most hotels and accommodations either lending or hiring bikes, you won't have to go far to start your adventure. Take one of the many suggested tracks around the island or see where the wind takes you. A day in the fresh air is all anyone needs to feel revitalised.

September is also the time for the world famous windsurfing regatta in Djerba. After the calm summer months, the wind picks up slightly in September, offering the perfect conditions to see the professionals at work. And if sitting on the side lines just isn't for you, why not try your hand at the sport with your own windsurfing lessons with Les Dauphins. You might not reach competitive standard in one holiday, but you'll have a fabulous time trying.

Hit the Beach

It is the effort that the staff go to to ensure the sand at Sentido Djerba Beach is kept spotlessly clean that makes this a beach that should not be missed. As soon as any seaweed or waste is spotted on the shore, someone will be there to clean it up. And with the facilities of the hotel to fulfil your every need, this is a wonderful place to go. In September, the beach will not be as busy as the peak summer months, but that doesn't mean it will be quiet. There is still a full schedule of activities and entertainments for guests and visitors alike, as well as some wonderful cocktails to wash it all down with.

Even if you are not staying at Hotel PlamAzur, the beach within the hotel is still completely accessible. Simply walk through the gates and make yourself comfortable. This beach welcomes everyone. Plenty of sunbeds and parasols line the area. And the long stretch of golden sand is surrounded by palm trees, providing a little piece of paradise. The beautiful warm water is then ready to lure you in when its time to cool off. You couldn't want anything more.

Restaurants and Nightlife

For a fabulous view of Djerba Marina, drop by the Havana Café in Houmt Souk. This is a fabulous place to stop for a steaming cup of coffee or fruit tea during the day. But in the evening this area is packed with visitors, all enjoying the delicious array of cocktails served from this delightful establishment. Your host will speak very good English and is happy to guide you through the extensive range of well-cooked meals that make up a very varied menu. Excellent value, good portions and outstanding dishes mean no one will be disappointed with a trip to the Havana.

When you want a party atmosphere, head down to Desperados. Though Desperados is also a restaurant, most people come to dance. Order your drinks by the bottle and they come served in an ice bucket, keeping you nice and cool. And with complimentary snacks on offer, you'll want to stay all night. Look out for theme nights and special offers that will ensure a crowd. In September Desperados is full of visitors, all hoping to have a night to remember.

As the name suggests, when you want to enjoy the sunset on a warm September night, the Sunset Beach Bar is the place to go.  In the day, this beautiful bar is full of entertainment with live DJ's a common occurrence. But at night, the place takes on a far more laid back air, offering the ideal setting for a perfect night. Chill out with a good cocktail and watch the sun go down with friends. Or it is a beautiful setting for a romantic meal for two. As the days shorten in September, the sunsets are truly stunning. And there's nowhere better to capture the image than at the Sunset Beach Bar.
