January is the coldest month of the year in Djerba. But with average temperatures of 13°C, the area offers the perfect antidote to the freezing weather back home.
Consistently mild temperatures mean there is never a bad time to visit Djerba. And though the winter brings with it a higher chance of rain, there are only an average of 8 days that will see any form of precipitation. And only 30mm of rainfall are likely throughout the whole month. This ensures there is still plenty of time for the sun to shine. And an average of 23 days when it won't rain at all.
The large amount of sunny days forecast, even through the coldest month, bring average high temperatures of 16°C throughout January. Despite this, record highs of 28°C were experienced back in 1997, proving that even in January there is still the opportunity for plenty of heat.
And thanks to the beautiful Mediterranean climate, the region enjoys an average of 10 hours of daily sunshine throughout this month. That is more than three times the amount of sun expected in London during the same period.
Sea temperatures do fall during the winter season, with the sea only cooler by one degree in February than it is in the month before. This means the average 15°C may not be sufficient to get you swimming in the sea. But the conditions are perfect for the range of water sports offered throughout the year.
While day time temperatures are at their lowest, so too are night time levels. Any visitors to the area are likely to experience average lows of just 9°C throughout the month. This means a light jacket or cardigan is beneficial so that you can still enjoy the vast array of al fresco dining that is always popular across the island.
