Diani Beach is a beach resort on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya. It is located 30km south of Mombassa which is the second largest city in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Kenya. The climate on Diani Beach is of a warm tropical climate and is dominated by the large scale pressure systems of the Indian Ocean and the two distinct monsoon periods. The weather does not have 4 separate seasons and as Kenya sits directly on the equator it can experience the 4 seasons all year round, it can be slightly warmer in winter here.
The typical weather does tend to be quite stable but is affected by monsoon winds which blow across the ocean. The Kaskazi wind is a northern monsoon normally lasting from late November to late February / early March but is moderately dry. In March to April the wind blows in the east to south-easterly direction which is called the kusi with strong maritime air from the Indian Ocean bringing heavy downpours of rain. The kusi wind continues from May to August with the weather becoming more dull and steady. In September and November the north-eastern monsoon begins again. Humidity can be high from December to April.
There is not only the weather to enjoy but also plenty of water sporting activities, including diving, snorkelling, wind surfing and deep sea fishing. The beach is well known for its coral reef and is a popular kite surfing location. There are also plenty of hotels, restaurants and shopping centres. You could also go on an excursion on safari to explore the rest of Kenya. You can check the weather forecast before you book your holiday to see what the weather will be like during your chosen time of year.
