Avg Historical Daily Average

May is the last month of the spring season and the last one before the hoards of crowds begin to descend on Daylan for the summer months. As a result, this is one of the last times to get a great deal on a hotel room or flight. It is also a great time to enjoy the region and the rest of Turkey before it gets too hot to really explore all the outdoor options and sites.

During the month, the temperature takes one of the largest jumps of the year. The average daily temperature for this time of the year is a mild 20°C (68°F). For the first time this year, visitors can leave the heavy coats at home. Temperatures in the morning will bottom out at an average of 13°C (55°F). Afternoon temperatures will quickly climb to an average high of 26°C (79°F). Despite the warm weather, it is still a good idea for tourists to consult an extended forecast before leaving home. Vacationers may also want to see how weather in the region compares to other Turkey resorts.

Temperatures in the sea are also beginning to significantly warm up. The average sea surface temperature for this time of the year is 20°C (68°F). This number is significantly warmer than the previous month and is it now possible for some to venture out into the sea and take advantage of not only the beach, but also the numerous available water sports.

This is also one of the driest months of the year. The region receives an average of 17mm of precipitation during this time of the year. The rain is spread over an average of just 5 days making most of the month dry and pleasant. With lower rain chances, there is also a better chance of seeing plenty of sun. During this time of the year, the region sees an impressive 13 hours of sunshine each day.

THINGS TO DO

The increase in temperature signals a few changes in Dalyan. The beaches become much more populated as vacationers start to arrive with their families and the areas around the beaches fill up quickly.

There are many beach related activities to partake in at this time of the year. The waters around the area, both the sea and the river, provide plenty of things for visitors to do. On the river side, visitors are afforded the opportunity to tackle some grade 4 rapids while rafting through slender gorges and serene stretches of clear as crystal river water. This is a great adventure for those who are not scared of a little water

On the sea side of Dalyan, there are plenty of diving spots where visitors will get to see the abundance of marine life that lives in the coves and bays of Dalyan's coast. There are dive instructors available so that even beginners will be able to enjoy what the waters of Dalyan have to offer.

HIT THE BEACH

May is really the first month of the year when vacationers can enjoy the beaches of Turkey. Average sea surface temperatures have finally warmed to 20°C (68°F). While this might be too chilly for everyone, hearty souls will want to venture out into the waves. One of the best south coast beaches is Aydincik, Gokceada. With 1500 meters of sugary sand, this is an ideal spot to enjoy the region. Additionally, there are warm, clear waters just off shore allowing visitors the opportunity to enjoy snorkeling or just swimming among the mild waves.

RESTAURANTS AND NIGHTLIFE

The White House Restaurant is a family style sit down establishment that is fun for all ages. Be sure to sit upstairs on the balcony with a great view of the river and tombs and a great spot to people watch.  The food is expertly prepared and the staff is great about making the proper recommendations. This restaurant gets high marks across the board.

Another good spot that has guests returning year after year is Natural Paradise. With traditional Turkish food, the menu has been well crafted and takes advantage of the natural resources. With all meals cooked to order, there may be a small wait time, but it will be worth it when the food arrives at the table.

Known as one of the best bars in Dalyan, Sofra Bar does not disappoint. Not only is this spot a great place to dance the night away, but the staff is more than willing to arrange furniture for guests to watch sports on one of the many televisions. The bartenders are also well trained and know how to make a mean cocktail.
