June is one of the more popular months to visit Dalyan and is also the start of the summer season. With temperatures warming to some of the highest numbers of the year and nearly no precipitation, it is no wonder that this time of the year is very popular.
Precipitation amounts have been dropping since January and now are at some of the lowest levels of the year. In fact, rainfall is almost nonexistent during this time of the year with only 3mm of precipitation expected. Those 3mm fall on an average of only 4 days of the month. As a result, most of the month is dry and visitors can take full advantage of the beach, water and numerous land-based activities.
Water temperatures are also much warmer during this time of the year making it possible for visitors to enjoy all water sports that the region offers such as scuba diving, snorkeling and more. Sea surface temperatures during this time of the year will average 23°C (73°F). Water temperatures such as these make it possible for the entire family to enjoy the waves.
Temperatures on land are also climbing toward their peak. The mornings are mild with an average overnight low of 17°C (63°F). Temperatures will climb steadily throughout the morning and afternoon hours and reach an average high temperature of 31°C (88°F). The average daily temperature for this time of the year is 24°C (75°F). Visitors will also be able to take advantage of an average of 13 hours of sunshine each day. As a result, it is important that visitors remember to pack plenty of sunscreen when visiting the area. THINGS TO DO
May and June are the prime egg laying months for the Loggerhead (Caretta Caretta) turtles native to Dalyan's Iztuzu beach. Visitors can tour the Dalyan Sea Turtles Research, Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre to learn more about this endangered species and how efforts to preserve it have impacted the local populations in recent years.
Another popular tourist spot is the Dalyan mud baths and thermal water springs. Legend has it that the mud and hot springs in these areas contain therapeutic and even healing properties. It has even been told that the great Egyptian queen Cleopatra traveled to Dalyan to soak in the restorative waters. Nowadays, famous actors, actresses and even royalty can be spotted enjoying a soak and a scrub in the Dalyan mud baths.
HIT THE BEACH
One of the best beaches in the entire country of Turkey is located right in Dalyan. Iztuzu is a mixture of both tourism and turtles crammed into a 4.5km stretch of hard packed sand. The best time to see the sea turtles is in June and July when they drag themselves along the beach in order to lay their eggs. As a result, you can't put umbrellas into the sand, but this is still a great time to visit the beach. The water itself is calm making it the perfect spot for children to play in the sea without fear of large waves. This eco-beach is one that should not be missed and with sea surface temperatures of 23°C (73°F), this is a great time to see nature at its finest.
