It's worth considering combining a trip to St. Nicholas Island as there is historical significance to the island. It is a rather small island but contains the remains of a monastic retreat as well as the original resting place of St. Nicholas (Father Christmas). There are four churches total, other religious buildings, Byzantine dwellings, stone tombs and a ceremonial passageway. It is the perfect break after a day of sunbathing and is easily accessible by catching the boat that crosses the half mile stretch of water. Your journey starts with a 30 minute ride up the mountain you will be soon flying from. Once at the top, the experienced, licensed pilot you'll be flying with provides a brief on everything you'll need to know. You then take your leap and fly for about 30 minutes, but can depend on current weather conditions.
Culture vultures need to make the day trip to Rhodes, Greece, and experience the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes. This museum is housed in the medieval building of the Hospital of the Knights. The building began construction in 1440 by Grand Master de Lastic and was not completed until 1948 by Grand Master d'Aubusson. In the museum you will find the many discoveries from the island. There is a collection of tomb groups, figurines and vases which date back from Geometric to Roman times.
