May marks the beginning of the hot season in Dahab, and the daytime weather is reliably hot, dry and sunny. Daytime temperatures reach an average maximum of 34 degrees, and temperatures generally fall no lower than 24 degrees overnight. Although low humidity and refreshing northerly breezes make the weather less uncomfortably hot than those values may suggest, it is inadvisable to stay out in the sun for too long. On the other hand, average sea temperatures rise to a relatively balmy 24 degrees. Mays are generally very dry with only one day with rainfall on average, and a mean monthly total of 2mm. An average day in May will feature 13 hours of bright sunshine.
Although some entertainment outlets close down during May due to the heat, Dahab still has a fair amount to offer if you can stomach the high daytime temperatures. The Dahab International Festival of Water Sports, Culture and Desert Adventure runs during May and is centred on scuba diving and free-diving, and features band performances, yoga and camel racing.
Nearby high quality accommodation is available at Dive Urge which is also adjacent to Desert Divers, an organisation that offers accommodation and a range of diving-related activities including camel safari trips to major dive sites.
