What's the weather like in Cozumel in February

February is probably one of the best months to visit Cozumel. This part of the Yucatan Peninsula experiences a dry season now, with plenty of sun and heat and very little rain, while the sea stays warm and perfect for deep diving and parasailing.

Temperature

The average temperature is steady at 25°C (76°F), with estimated high and low averages of 29°C and 20°C respectively. The nights are thus far more pleasant than most of the year, perfect for late night walks and dips!

Sunshine Hours

The days get longer as well, with up to 8 hours of sunshine, and chances of sunny days increase to 24% on average. You might think it's not much, but for February it's an absolute delight, considering its still winter. Sort of. At least, it is for Europe.

Rainfall

Humidity drops to a comfortable 65% on average, with a dew point oscillating between 18°C and 20°C - the high end is best felt through the 3 rainy days expected for the month. Chances of rain drop to a wonderful 13% chance on average, with a volume of just 13mm. Sudden showers may occur throughout the occasional afternoon, but it's nothing that won't dry up five minutes later!

Winds

Chances of windy days increase to 25%, with speeds averaging between 3 and 7 m/s, and most of them blowing from the east and southeast. The few northern and northeastern winds will bring about 12% chances of cloudy days, and nothing more serious. They may also be responsible for the aforementioned sudden precipitations, but with such low volumes, they can hardly be considered a threat to anyone's holiday.

Sea Temperature

The beautiful Caribbean Sea stays pleasant at 26°C (79°F) on average, riddled with southern tropical currents from neighboring Cuba and its islets. It's absolutely perfect even for late nights swimming (mind you, only where it's safe!) and deep-diving. Imagine that, deep diving in February!

Cozumel Hotels in February

Naturally, there is an ongoing battle for spots at Cozumel's best resorts during this month, so we do suggest booking at least 6 months in advance, as February is one of the season peaks for this part of Mexico. With that in mind, we would gladly recommend the Landmark Resort of Cozumel, offering luxury apartments complete with a private terrace, fully equipped kitchen and en-suite bath for £250 per night. Though pricey, this sumptuous resort also boasts a fitness center, outdoor swimming pool and is situated just 20 yards from the breathtaking Dzul Ha coral reef.

The Park Royal Cozumel has recently earned its fifth star and is soon to be called Grand, and is offering splendid double suites for £158 per night for couples. It has private beach access, first class amenities, and four generous swimming pools and also offers daytime activities such as Spanish lessons and cooking classes. On top of that, they also give direct access and discounts to the Royal Village Shopping Centre. The stunning Presidente Intercontinental Resort & Spa has double suites going for £201 per night, and offers access to their private beach, on-site dive shop, outdoor pools and fitness center. They also have two tennis courts and offer certified dive trips into the local reefs.

However if your budget is slightly tighter, you can find comfy dorms at the Amigos Hostel, for prices starting from £8.44 per night. The splendid Villa Anna Maria also has privates available from £35.17 per night, as well as free Wi-Fi and easy access to most of Cozumel's main attractions.

Cozumel Beaches for February

As you may know, Cozumel has many splendid beaches, some perfect for swimming and sunbathing, others fit for snorkeling and beach diving, and some stunning strips of white sand and rocky limestone that are too dangerous for swimming, but perfect for relaxation and taking timeless photographs.

The breathtaking Playa Azul stretches on the west coast, just north of San Miguel, and its solid seabed makes it good for snorkeling; its calm and deep blue azure waters also make it great for swimming and beach diving, and it features jet ski and kayak amenities, along with restrooms and showers.

On the same west coast but south of San Miguel, you will find the absolutely wonderful Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park, one of Cozumel's superstars. It's perfect for snorkeling and beach diving, while swimming can be done with a lifeguard, due to the sometimes treacherous currents. You can also cut across the deep blue waters with jet skis and kayaks, or even go parasailing. For the less adventurous but equally fun, the beach also has a volleyball court and a pool, as well as a restaurant, restrooms, showers and lockers.

If you go to the east coast, you can still find people-friendly beaches. One excellent example is Oriente & Mezcalitos, a stunning strip of sand that's good for swimming but not recommended for any snorkeling or deep diving, as the seabed is soft and sandy and prone to obstructing the view at the slightest disturbance.

Bars and Restaurants

Cozumel isn't particularly known for its bustling nightlife, as most people come here to bask in the sun, deep dive in the Caribbean Sea and explore Mayan ruins and stunning coral reefs, and by the time night falls, they're far too tired. For that reason alone, the lovely people of this island chose to focus more on excellent food and popular sports bars.

Ideally, Fat Tuesday has a little bit of everything, as it's open from early and closes quite late. It's a little gem of the Downtown, and its American and Mexican cuisine is often praised by locals and tourists alike.

If you're looking for authentic Mexican and fresh seafood, then try the Mama Linda, open daily from the early morning until the evening.

Ohana Cafe & Bar opens its doors from 5pm till 12am, but during high seasons like February you can catch a hearty breakfast here from as early as 7am, and it's best known for its delicious mix of Mexican, American, Seafood and Italian recipes. You should also try Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, which offers not only delicious American, Caribbean, Mexican and fresh seafood dishes; it also boasts a great cocktail menu and is open till midnight.

If you still feel like shaking a leg and shot-lining tequilas, then the splendid Dubai Cozumel is a good place to go, as it's open from 10pm until the wee hours of the morning, and it also hosts absolutely hilarious and fun karaoke nights!

Things to do in Cozumel in February

The Mexican people have a strong religious culture, embodied by frequent celebrations throughout the year. February sees the arrival of Dia de la Candelaria, when the people attend mass and celebrate the appearance of the Virgin of La Candelaria in Tenerife, Canary Islands back in the XV century. They also celebrate Dia de la Constitucion on 5 February, when the first legitimate Mexican Constitution was drafted in Santiago de Queretaro during the great Mexican Revolution in 1917.

This month is perfect for deep sea fishing, and Cozumel Charters offer good prices for their tour packages - this is your chance to maybe catch elusive barracudas, or the Mahi Mahi, the sailfish or the Wahoo, if you're lucky. But if fishing isn't your best idea of exploring the Caribbean Sea, you can take some of the tours available for deep sea diving; for instance, packages starting at £35 are available for Palancar reef diving, and pricier £120 packages are still available if you're interested in exploring the absolutely stunning Santa Rosa wall.

You can also book a Jeep tour from £49 per person, where you can drive your own bad boy vehicle around the island, accompanied by a professional and certified guide to show you the unmissable sights of Cozumel.

Finally, February is the month of the Cozumel Carnival, where both children and adults are welcome - it features numerous costume and dance contests, feasts and a marvelous parade!
