Things to do in Costa Dorada in April
Easter
Costa Dorada's population is predominantly Catholic. Naturally, the people here place great emphasis on Holy Week which usually falls on the last week of March or the first week of April. Processions are held from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday and with only 5 days of rain in the month, there is a good chance the celebrations will be dry.
Dansa de la Mort
Verges, a municipality situated in the North of Catalonia, is famous for its Dansa de la Mort held every Holy Thursday. Down south in the city of Tarragona the highlight of the Holy Week celebration is the procession of the Holy Burial on Good Friday. Penitents, religious devotees, people dressed as Nazarenes and Romans and other characters in the Holy Burial procession will be walking to the beat of drums through the streets of Tarragona.
Passion Play
Meanwhile, the town of Olesa de Monstserrat is renowned for its La Passio de Olesa or Passion Play. In 1996, 726 persons acted onstage at the same time during the Passion Play so you can just imagine how the people here put all their hearts into the occasion. Esparaguerra, a town in Catalonia is also famous for its play (La Passio d'Esparreguera) depicting the life and passion of Jesus Christ.
Diade de Sant Jordi
On the 23rd of the month, the cities, towns or counties of Catalonia celebrate the Diada de Sant Jordi. St. George is the patron saint of Catalonia and on his feast day the men give red roses to the women while the latter give books to the men. This is like Valentine's Day in April where everyone is in a loving mood and of course, the bookshops and flower shops are full.
